Chris Harrison steps aside from "The Bachelor" after racially insensitive interview

You see a lot of a certain kind of guy appointing themselves as the Voice of Reason on Cancel Culture, and what’s remarkable is that they never seem to have, you know, reasoned about it.

I mean, there are pretty strong arguments against public shaming in principle – it’s not something an ideal society would need or tolerate. But if your only argument is “no fair holding me to rules I deliberately didn’t know about”, that underlines why our society isn’t ideal and probably does need public shaming in some cases.

Because, yes, it is unfair that this guy gets fired when Fox News scumbags can be a thousand times worse with no fear of reprisal. Not caring what is fair for high-status white men is the whole point.

If being cancelled means that you don’t get to host The Bachelor anymore, then what does that make people who will never in their lives have the opportunity to host The Bachelor? It’s like the rest of us never existed to begin with. Or maybe it just means that I am unable to sympathize with rich and famous people when they get “cancelled” for doing something racist or sexist, leaving them only ever so slightly less rich and famous than they were before.
