Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 2)

It’s important to note that there are a LOT of countries out there whose net irresponsibility equals that of the USA.

Vaccines at last!

ANVISA, the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, has just approved two vaccines for emergence use. The vaccines are CoronaVac (made by the Butantan Institute) and AstraZeneca/Oxford (Fiocruz Institute)

As the Indian government refused to sell the Oxford vaccines to Brazil, the immunization campaign will start as soon as possible only with the chinese Coronavac, the very same vaccine despised and demonized by President Bolsonaro and his fanbase for months.

Oh the irony…

After Anvisa’s approval, the São Paulo government applies the first dose of CoronaVac before the national vaccination plan developed by the federal government begins, for the minister´s chagrin.

A 54-year-old nurse, who works at the ICU of the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas, was the first person, outside of clinical studies, to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country. She was immunized this Sunday (17) at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP).

The cable news channel Globo News clarified that the nurse could be vaccinated because she was part of the clinical study and took a placebo. According to them, this is the reason she is entitled to the vaccine.

The SP government used this resource to take the lead in the battle for political gains from vaccination.

The vaccine wars?

The government of the state of Bahia appealed to the Federal Supreme Court with a preliminary request for authorization for import and emergency use of the Russian vaccine against Covid-19, Sputnik V

According to Anvisa, the request for emergency use was denied, as it did not meet the minimum criteria required by the agency, mainly because tests of phase three of the Sputnik V vaccine have not yet been carried out in Brazil.

Sadly that’s true. Here in Poland on average about 300 people are dying daily (so the situation is comparable to USA), and yet the government decided to restart in person school classes for younger children tomorrow.

Still going after her. The horror and insanity in this country is far from ending.

Thank you for posting that! I’ve been finding it difficult to find patience and compassion when I see people breaking the new “rules” and that article is a really good reminder that we are not all starting from the same place, and that not every close-stander is a virus denier.
Wells of compassion, replenished.

204,974 doses so far, for four million people

at twelve thousand doses per day this will take two years

But it’s not going to be at that rate. It will pick up, everywhere. Vaccine supply is ramping up all over and the more vaccines licensed the more that can be given. Also the Oxford Astrazeneca one is the easiest to deliver at scale and will make a huge difference.

But no, this isn’t going away in a few months and we should pursue zero Covid strategies until then. At least show we’ve learnt something before the next pandemic hits.

Not due here until end of the month. To be fair, they pulled shenanigans with the trials.

I’m sure it will be certified and the speed will increase significantly. I don’t understand France but here everyone really wants it. Politicians aren’t getting it unless they are health care workers or really old (the president, that’s about it). They are due next month.

Mortality rate is much higher than reported if you count these deaths.

“ Study author Kamlesh Khunti, professor of primary care diabetes and vascular medicine at Leicester University, said: “This is the largest study of people discharged from hospital after being admitted with Covid.

“People seem to be going home, getting long-term effects, coming back in and dying. We see nearly 30 per cent have been readmitted, and that’s a lot of people. The numbers are so large.”

“ Symptoms included breathlessness, excessive fatigue and muscle aches, leaving people struggling to wash, dress and return to work.

Some patients say they have been left needing a wheelchair since contracting the virus, while others claim they can no longer walk up the stairs without experiencing chest pain.”

I hope that there will be some treatment for it available, because for me weakness and muscle pain after covid on some days is so bad that it’s nearly impossible to leave the bed, even nearly 2 months after initail symptoms.
