it’s also got off label use as a treatment for rosacea and acne. i took it for years at a very low dose. i guess the connection to anti inflammation is similar
side effects build up over time regardless, and im pretty sure it messes with melatonin levels. i got extremely sensitive to the sun, and wound up tired all the time.
definitely did wonders though. from full face painful to the touch acne to looking and feeling completely normal.
seem to manage these days fine without. thank goodness. lethargy sucks.
Long term low dose doxycycline (Periostat) is also used for treating chronic periodontal disease. A family member has been prescribed it for several years now, with no problems so far. IANAD, YMMV, etc.
The worries (mostly) with any long term antibiotic usage are development of resistant organisms, although Big Ag has outdone us at that by orders of magnitude, so it’s not so much a real concern anymore, and mucking up the microbiome, which we are only just beginning to appreciate as a much bigger deal than we had thought. Far more involved than “C. diff bad, probiotics good.” And another area where our knowledge is in very early stages of evolution. As with anything medical, it’s a question of balancing pro’s and con’s, and something to discuss with your doctor.
Me, too! I’ve accepted that this is over for the foreseeable future, but I don’t like it.
I’m thinking I’ll go to the respectful bow as an alternative. The elbow bump feels to bro-ey.
What kind of comparison is that? Dark ages stuff vs. scientifically informed restraint?
I, for one, am not a hugger. I cringe at French and Swiss customs of cheek-to-cheek kissing, and even feel awkward at German hand-shaking when meeting new people in a group.
I would certainly welcome if people stop touching me, insist on coming into my personal space and GET RID OF THE VIRUS which affects my personal wellbeing at the same time.
Hell, I even like the face masks. I started wearing my community mask (cotton double layer) on my friggin’ bike because my nose gets cold, and it is socially acceptable now! And as someone strongly allergic to certain kinds of plant pollen, I look forward to wearing my N95s during the onslaught of spring.
I’m not allergic to cats, BTW. But if I were as allergic to them as I am, e.g., to birch, I would welcome their eradication from human settlements this instant.
Not so much during the bubonic plague, tough.
I think it was meant to be a humorous observation that the one culture didn’t evaluate their social germ-trading traditions, and instead killed the small mammals who were keeping the plague rats at bay. When they could have, theoretically, looked at places that weren’t so badly impacted and considered the different social norms, re: smushing bodies and faces together.
Just one example, but I was prescribed a single dose of 9mg ivermectin in December in an attempt at acne control. No side effects whatsoever, including no acne control, but I did experience two weeks of anti-inflammatory bliss.
While its value for managing covid symptoms is still being tested, the AZ docs really seem to trash it and discount its medicinal value to humans.
Here’s the thing, and I’m thinking of that spin instructor everyone’s so exercised about, we should be very careful about virus shaming. Did she stretch the definition educator? Perhaps, but it’s on the State, not every individual to figure that out.
Also, it’s curious that everyone is focussing on her, and not serious offenders.
