Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 2)

WA is ratcheting up on the restrictions again.

To be clear the state has had numerous restrictions in place since March but things had been gradually loosened. This is basically back to where we were in March again.

Don’t read the comments unless you really want to be infuriated.

Can’t say what happens with the uninsured, but with Medicaid and private insurance, testing is free. At our office, you can get a test anytime and have results the next day. Now, UVA developed its own test. If you go through Labcorp, it will be several days to get results.

“ Whenever she logged into Facebook and Instagram, Khouri saw more and more posts declaring that covid-19 was a hoax and that wearing a mask was “submission” and “slavery,” alongside memes railing against a future covid-19 vaccine. Typical wellness memes, with their airy fonts and light colors, had been replaced by cookie-cutter rightwing images with their aggressively ugly design—a vaccine, read one of them, the fuzzy, bold text superimposed over a stock image of a Black woman happily getting vaccinated, was a modern-day update to the gas chambers employed by Nazi Germany. “Nobody will even know it’s a Holocaust,” it warned darkly.”

The night of the final “presidential” debate, I had run some errands a few hours prior that had me coming home via Main Street in the early evening. It was striking to be sitting at the red light at a big wide intersection known as Five Points in downtown Durham with people eating and drinking at outdoor tables less than ten feet from my driver’s seat on each side. Yet in the “debate” I heard about how utterly and tyranically “locked down” my state is.

My city was torn apart as a noble sacrifice to “the infrastructure of the economy” and my entire life has been a series of compromises to live and work sanely and safely in the wreckage of those monumentally stupid decisions, to say nothing of trying to thrive and survive in the stunted society that they have engendered. Which city would that be, you ask? Every fucking one I’ve ever lived in, or attempted to.

Caveat #1 90% and 94.5% effectiveness at this stage are not really different, at least not in a way that is significant yet.

Caveat #2 The ultracold issue is less with Moderna, so maintaining cold chain in shipping and storage should be less of a challenge. That is huge in my mind.

Caveat #3 We still have no idea about durability of immunity. That is by no means a reason to delay distribution, but it will be something to keep an eye on going forward. Future booster doses may (almost certainly will) be required.

Ignoring the fact that people have been getting it more than once, I guess?

We’re well and truly fucked with these assholes in charge of the world. It’s like they don’t give a shit about doing the right thing and solving problems.
