Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 2)

Can confirm for Indiana:

Feb. 1: Hoosiers 65 and older can get the coronavirus vaccine.
Feb. 23: Hoosiers 60 and older can get the coronavirus vaccine.
March 2: Hoosiers 55 and older start receiving the coronavirus vaccine.
March 3: Hoosiers 50 and older start receiving the coronavirus vaccine.

Notice how quickly it went from 60 to 55 to 50 (literally, overnight). Too many no-mask, no-vaccine people.

Meanwhile, they’re still not vaccinating teachers or essential workers who are not in a medical field…unless they’re already retired, or close to retirement.

Yet Alabama hasn’t expanded who qualifies yet. I help take care of a relative with cancer taking chemo, who also hasn’t been able to get an appointment either by the way, and per Alabama’s rules, I don’t qualify.
Tennessee just opened up vaccination slots for those with co-morbidities. No residency requirement either, because the locals aren’t signing up. I meet one of the co-morbidity criteria, registered last night, have an appointment tomorrow. My relative is trying to get through to the oncologist to get the “ok” to go.
Yes, it all feels a little off. Maybe not line jumping, because I do meet Tennessee’s criteria. I know I’m exercising some privilege because I have the means and the flexibility to drive an hour away to hopefully take myself out of the potential viral reservoir.

I know it rankles, but 1) you are not to blame, this is 100% the fault of the State (and previously Federal) governments and 2) every vaccinated person adds to herd immunity, so you are doing something for everyone.

Good to know someone has had success with that :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: web site! I keep getting one phantom slot. When that is clicked, a message pops up saying too bad, someone else just booked that time. There’s no way to move forward or back, change a date, or select a different time. So, I start over from the beginning. Hopefully, I’ll be able to set up appointments for two elderly relatives before the month is over - unless they get a call back from other sources first. :weary:

First vaccine done.

And on the way home, I get a call and a text from the county health department telling me there is no more vaccine but I’m on the list.
I was able to do a simple “got it already” form from the text. I was very happy to see one small part of the system works.

My app alerted me to changes. They’re opening up cancellation spots, which were appearing and disappearing. I snagged one for 6:20pm today, which gives mom enough time to get ready for it.

Hopefully they’ve fixed their line-up problems.

YES!

30 minutes behind, but all inside and organized. Pfizer, first shot, done!

I guess I can switch off the app until my turn.

Biden’s goal is to secure enough supply to vaccinate children and — if necessary — administer booster shots to increase protection against new variants of the virus, according to the New York Times.

More than 18% of Americans have received their first dose, with states currently administering vaccines at a rate of about 2.1 million per day.

Please enjoy this musical break that has nothing to do with Covid…

#1 song in the U.S. in 1967! (I was 12 years old)

From Wikipedia:

“The Happening” is a 1967 song recorded by Motown artists
The Supremes. The song served as the theme song of the 1967 Columbia Pictures film The Happening, and was released as a single by Motown at the time of the film’s release that spring. While the movie flopped, the song peaked at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in May,[1] becoming The Supremes’ tenth number-one single in the United States,[2] peaking in the top 10 on the UK Pop Chart at number six, and in the top 5 in the Australian Pop Chart and in the Dutch Pop Chart.

And now back to regular programming.
