Vaccine impatience
Ilta-Sanomat has a story on vaccine enthusiasm showing itself in a less than healthy way. The paper reports that Helsinki vaccine centres are turning away people each day because they have booked a slot even though they are not eligible to get the vaccine.
When people book a slot, they self-declare they are part of a risk group. Then when they turn up to get jabbed, they have to prove it.
That can be difficult to document, as it does not always show in health records. Particularly sleep apnea and high body mass index (in Finland a BMI of 40 or above is required to be considered at elevated risk from Covid) can be hard to prove.
In addition, some people turn up saying that they need a vaccination in order to travel. That is not a justification accepted by the health authorities.

i don’t understand how a bmi over 40 could be “hard to prove”. i’ve had the reverse problem in that my orthopedist told me the hospital here is reluctant to permit a joint replacement on someone with a bmi of 40+ and even though i’ve had him run my height/weight combination through their formula each time he brings it up and it comes in at 37-39 each time, he brings it up every time we talk about it.

People who are vaccinated can still catch the virus and spread it. To the best of my knowledge, this is scientifically contraindicated. What the fuck is wrong with the CDC?

Got this 2h after getting a AG lateral flow test (negative). Well, I rushed to get a PCR test and am isolating as good as possible. I am also pretty confident that this is a false alarm, because I am quite careful and can account for the day.

I have groused on here about the shortage of mental health providers for kids. Well, we found one, hired her and got ready for her start date. Then she notified us that she got covid, then that she was hospitalized, and now can’t get around without a walker. She is late 20’s. Expects to make a full recovery, but will not be starting on schedule, needless to say. Fuck him and all the other antivaxxer, covid denier, HCW killing goons.

I shared it with my family, because some of the vaccinated ones are looking forward to having indoor gatherings soon. I keep telling them why that is a terrible idea. It’s still too soon for that. Even after my second shot next month, my plan is to continue isolating, double-masking in public spaces, and distancing. So many variants, too few fully vaccinated…
