Just. Grim.

Hereā€™s a handy visualisation to keep track of all the tory cronies getting those sweet pandemic contracts to fill their pockets with cash.

Thoughts And Prayers

Only thing we can offer.

White House political director Brian Jack and at least two other White House aides have tested positive for COVID-19, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News.

At least 12 people in President Donald Trumpā€™s orbit have tested positive since White House chief of staff Mark Meadows tested positive one week ago.

Same issue here in upper Baja, California. Belief that machismo, faith, or physical strength would be enough to combat the virus, if they donā€™t already think itā€™s a hoax.

I keep saying that if this was a disease that fucked up your face or made your dick fall off, people people would be taking it more seriously.

But since it attacks the respiratory system, and they canā€™t immediately see the damage it does, assholes donā€™t take it seriously.

Of course it does:

And things are also looking grim in the new hotspots:

Late-stage capitalism is keeping your economy running during a pandemic by investing heavily in mobile morgue construction.

Shutting down businesses and paying people for lost wages for four to six weeks could help keep the coronavirus pandemic in check and get the economy on track until a vaccine is approved and distributed, said Dr. Michael Osterholm, a coronavirus advisor to President-elect Joe Biden.

Optimistic, sure, but definitely the right track.

a sobering look the pfizer vaccine and the distribution in the us.

some highlights:

  1. the pfizer trial has only looked at seven days so far, and it sounds like the length of the study is only two weeks (!)
  2. the number of initially available doses is around the usā€™s current daily infection rate
  3. the states have been given no information about how distribution and supplies for distribution might work. and the trump administration hasnā€™t answered any of their questions
  4. since we have no uniform national health care system, we donā€™t have good uniform tracking of patients. the pfizer vaccine requires a booster after a month, and nobody knows how to ensure follow-up. especially for people without insurance, transportation, etc.

masks and social distancing will be here for a long while regardlessā€¦

I increasingly hear sports commentator voices in head, reading this type of headlines.

France is gaining on the UK with already 43 k deaths, but the per-capita ratio is higher for Belgium I hear, so weā€™ll stay tuned.

Also, dear friends in the other side of the ocean, Europe is driving the pandemic once more. More than 300 k deaths.

Personal note: mother and grandmother of my in-law tested positive. Grandmother was really fit before. Suddenly could not get up, got ā€œweakā€. Silent asphyxia. Hospitalised now. Sheā€™s 92. Her daughter is tested positive, quarantined and is blaming herself.

Also, she doesnā€™t even own a computer (had an iPad), but got pdf forms and Excel tables to fill out by the health authorities. Iā€™m not sure if Iā€™m impressed that a Gesundheitsamt is sending out contact tracing tables electronically (we usually do this shit by mail, maximum: fax) or if I should bang my head on the table.

It should surprise none of you here that I do not spend much of my time trying to demonstrate to myself or others how ā€˜machoā€™ I am. And when I am being demonstrably masculine, itā€™s always because what Iā€™m doing requires that physical strength, toughness, or whatever.

What these fuckers seem to continually overlook though, is that every single activity that they think makes someone macho or masculine relies on a well-functioning circulatory system. Especially, and I cannot stress this enough, that one activity that they see as the apex of masculine power.

As a long-time endurance athlete who has lived the nightmare of having my physical prowess taken away by systemic disease, and who is working hard every day to resume being the badass Iā€™m accustomed to being, let me tell you, those fuckers know NOTHING of macho.

This is a vascular disease. And there is no amount of toughness or machismo that will oxygenate those big manly muscles without a functional vascular system. And there is also no amount of testosterone that will make up for compromised vasculature when a partner wants you to demonstrate exactly how masculine you can be for the next ninety minutes.

These people that continually confuse sexual preferences with physical vitality clearly understand even less about sexuality, their own and othersā€™, than they do about every other aspect of the human condition. Besides, any fighter knows that if you can only throw a punch but not take one, youā€™re not much of a fighter.

I keep thinking about those iconic pictures of people standing in long lines during the Great Depression. One of the downsides of tech is that screens showing the reported numbers of affected people donā€™t provide the same emotional impact. Maybe this is why so many folks seem to shrug it off, as though the news is meaningless.

Youā€™d think the boards of big retailers would realize that none of these people are going to be in the other lines on Black Friday, but maybe they expect UI to last long enough and then who cares about Q3.
