To people who say “God will take care of me” I would say “have read the Book of Job”?
That sucks.
Remember last year when the kids going to college and quarantining were posting their lame meals on TikTok?
If universities who charge upwards of $40k/yr in tuition can’t get their meal service logistics sorted, how are we expecting underfunded public grade schools to deal? And now, over a year in, with all the exhaustion, death and attrition…I predict we are going to see a much overdue reckoning with our workforce issues ripple out for a long time from this.
But in the meantime, what are these kids going to eat?
This is a total side note, but this attitude bothers me in general. I don’t have kids, but I’m quite happy to pay taxes for good schools to support living in a well educated community and I think I should be allowed a voice and a vote on issues that effect the safety and welfare of our young people. To think that I care less because they’re not “mine” is kind of insulting. I don’t mean I want to tell anyone else how to raise their children, but as a community member, I’m just as invested in having safe, high quality institutions for our younger people as anyone else.
Absolutely true. It’s the flip side of the coin of the childless folks who don’t want to pay for schools. Get involved - it’s your community!
What happened in Richland County, Montana? Did school start or something?
the second would be good, but id argue not the first.
even we the kidless share the taxes which fund the schools. and things like mask mandates effects us all. ( as might some non-pandemic things like where’s the new school going )
there’s also plenty of people affected by schooling: in after school care, sports and music, or employed at the school… who might not have kids themselves.
we’re all part of the community. if not, it feels like we might as well only have private schools then
[ edit ] eep. sorry. plenty people already said as much. scroll @gatto scroll.
It bears repeating.
If you’re a renter you live in the township.
But it appears these people showing up are outside wackaddodles looking for attention.
Or where are all these people when it comes to other issues that affect the kids?
People are using this mask thing to promote an agenda that has nothing to do with the kids and these school boards should stop allowing it.
Japan has put the pause on using, and may have to dispose of, some 1.6 million doses of Moderna vaccine from three lots manufactured in Spain because 39 vials from these lots were found to have foreign matter contamination.
The graph with the case hospitalization rate (Tweeted by Tracey Høeg) is data from Tennessee.
(England has higher vaccination rates in general, but is not currently vaccinating under-16s other than those who have specific conditions that put them at higher risk or live with people who are immuno-suppressed. 16- and 17-year olds have only been offered their first dose in the last few weeks.)
That seems to be happening a lot these days. When Illinois legalized cannabis, there were outsiders showing up at town meetings all over the Chicago area trying to convince towns not to allow dispensaries.
Fair enough.
My apologies. I missed the “anyone unless” part.
I live in an area where people move across city lines all the time. You might work in one city and you live in another. The idea that only property owners should be able to speak even if they live outside the city still troubles me. I can think of lots of reasons why someone from outside of a town may want to address a council, township, or other government meeting.
But I understand the overall point you’re making.
I’ve been wondering this from day one. Last I checked here in Texas there’s no database to check lot# or any verification method. It’s almost trivial to create counterfeit cards.
