Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 3)

So, the depopulation is working, right? After this last week, I am just so exhausted I have lost the ability to deal sympathetically with people who spout conspiracy theory nonsense anymore. Trying to provide adequate healthcare has become physically and emotionally draining, I don’t have hospital backup at this point. Knowing how this is playing out in other states just fills me with foreboding. And it does not have to be like this. Fuck.

Economists say rising infections caused by the Delta variant have hit spending on travel, tourism and hospitality. They also note that the Labor Department’s data was collected in the second week of August, so does not reflect the impact of hurricanes Ida and Henri in the second half of the month.

Sorry doc. Thank you and all the other health care providers for the Herculean job you’ve all been doing for so long in this pandemic.

There’s a whole lot of people- a large majority- taking this very seriously and grateful for all your work.

A colleague of mine has a relative who needs a major cardiac surgery, but the area they live in has no hospitals that are allowing elective procedures. I advised them on some options for referrals to nearby hospitals that haven’t closed to elective procedures that are aligned with the hospital his relative goes to. Hopefully, they will be able to get a referral soon.

Just a real-world example of how the selfish anti-maskers/anti-vaxxer shits affect others.

What are the odds:

  1. He is fully vaccinated?
  2. He never actually took the pill (the article carefully says “appeared to”)?
  3. He took the one minimum harmless 3mg dose and never will again?

And now he’s ranting about prions? WTF?

Any 3-dollar words will do to make him look like he knows what he’s talking about. It keeps the rubes buying his own bullshit medicinals.

The sudden lapse of a crucial element of the pandemic safety net has fueled calls for a re-evaluation of the entire unemployment benefits system. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., the chairman of the Finance Committee, said in an interview it’s crucial that Congress modernizes the unemployment insurance system as part of the package.
“It’s heartbreaking to know it didn’t have to be this way,” Wyden said.
One of the changes he proposes is to have jobless benefits more linked to economic conditions, so they won’t expire in times of need. “We got to take the unemployment system into the 21st century,” he said.
