Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 3)

If you are implying that Germany is “leading”, I beg to differ.

Austria is way more professional, it seems.

FTR, current timeline is that vaccination could be mandatory in Germany by the end of February. As usual, Germany is thoroughly debating things and trying not to make a decision just yet.

ETA: the mask mandate in schools is a particularly sore point, since many states dropped this policy only in September. Why, you ask? Well… remember those elections?

In what way? Austria currently has a lower vaccination rate and higher infection rate than Germany. Over the course of the pandemic Germany has had about 14% fewer deaths-per-capita, and in recent weeks the difference has been even more stark.

I’m buying KF94 masks for Kiddo. Check out Aaron Collins’ mask test/review video and data spreadsheet for kid masks:

Kiddo (12) likes the Bluna mask with the duck on the package (adjustable ear loop) and the Happy Life mask with the puppy on the package (ear loop not adjustable). BOTN masks come in different sizes; the medium fits Kiddo ok, but she has to double up the ear loops.

Austria may have started that much earlier, but Germany has a lot of sway in that bloc.

Not a moment too soon, with Ontario :canada: brushing up against the psychological level of 1000 cases/day (~6.9/100k) that seems to trigger harder restrictions. With a bit of luck we can avoid:

I’ve needed N95 for my business for a while. I’ve been using Uline (don’t research their owners though they are ultra conservative) all of their masks are NIOSH approved and you can research that approval for every item.

Their 3M line has a mask for small faces. They are $1 - $1.40 each. Not bad pricing considering early on I was paying over 3 bucks a mask. I use the standard 3M N95, it’s very comfortable. It’s also nice because of the straps. You can flip it down by leaving the neck strap and then just flipping it back up with the head strap. I normally use an N95 with a cheap surgical over the top so I can reuse the N95 and toss the surgical if needed. Uline also has quality surgical mask for pretty cheap.

They only ship FedEx so anything in stock usually gets to me in two days.

They also have a flat fold that lists one for smaller faces. Those have to be purchased in a 40 pack.

The confirmed infection involved a vaccinated man from Hennepin County who developed mild symptoms Nov. 22 and sought testing two days later. The man, who has recovered, spoke with state case investigators and confirmed he had traveled to New York City and attended the Anime NYC convention Nov. 19-21. State investigators urged him to isolate from others to prevent the spread of the infection.

Well it looks like a few thousand folks who went to the convention are going to have to get tested. I saw footage from it a few weeks ago. It was definitely packed.

OK, folks, if you haven’t gotten your flu shot, get your asses moving. We are now seeing a number of cases here in VA and it is wicked in healthy kids. In anyone at risk, this will be bad.

From that article…

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she immediately contacted organizers of the event at the Javits Center after receiving news from Minnesota about the omicron infection. All attendees were vaccinated as a condition of the event and are encouraged to seek testing.

If the new variant came from there and there are other cases, everyone was required to be vaccinated, maybe there will be some real world data about the variant and the vaccinated.

A petite friend who needs kid-sized masks recommends this source. I see that WellBefore is included in that document that Wayward linked to—but I didn’t look at the doc closely enough to see if it’s talking about the same specific masks, or how they may compare to others.

Spiteful bastards are still posed to throw a fit because needles make Jim Bob’s arm feel ouchy

The federal government faces the threat of shutting down Friday at midnight, despite an announcement from congressional leaders Thursday of an agreement to extend funding into February, because Republican senators are objecting to President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate.

Key negotiators from both parties announced a plan Thursday morning that would keep the federal government funded, but due to Senate rules governing procedure, all 100 senators would need to agree in order to quickly pass the plan before Friday, and a handful of GOP senators are standing by their threats to delay the process over the vaccine rules.

But a group of Senate Republicans have repeatedly threatened throughout the week to delay passage of the continuing resolution over the Biden administration’s rule that requires employers with 100 or more employees to ensure their employees are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or undergo regular testing and wear face masks in the workplace.

Well that theory is shot to hell

The convention required face coverings and vaccinations. However, according to the Anime NYC website, the organizers only required attendees to have one dose and told them they could attend immediately after your first dose.

Crunchyroll (the anime streaming service and webstore owned by Sony) were the organizers of the event… so that could mean a big ass lawsuit for negligence.
