Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 3)

The way things stand, they’re going to need some armed guards along with them for some districts.

Sure, it’s mandated to use a RAT if you think you’ve been exposed, and sure it’s currently impossible to get your hands on a RAT, and they’re being sold for increasingly exhorbitant amounts of money if you are lucky enough to find them in the ten seconds between hitting the shelf and someone buying all of them, but heaven forfend we interfere with the right of the free market to make a profit.

This January is going to be interesting times. Good luck, everybody!

Even though this article seems reasonably accurate, I would normally trust the Telegraph about as much as I would the Daily Heil.

Their Sunday sibling had this the other day:

“Forced”? That’s the language of the plague rats…

Let’s do the time warp again…

Stay home, if you can.

Governments seem to be betting that a short pandemic explosion of large magnitude is somehow better than many small explosions and disruptions. Kind of “let’s drop the nukes and end this” thinking, except we’re the target.

Meanwhile… except for 6 cases at a sex club and a small care home outbreak, :new_zealand: is still doing well. They seem to have gotten that Omicron threat under control. I said I would be astounded. I am.

Siouxsie Wiles is awesome, BTW.

 Come to think of it, it was during our last bout of Conservative provincial government that I packed up and left :canada: for a while…

This is sad but kind of funny. Abbott just bragged on Friday how they beat Biden in his vaccine and mask mandate, Paxton even calling him prez brandon and now we get this…

“Detecting COVID-19 and preventing COVID-related hospitalizations are critical to our fight against this virus,” said Abbott in a prepared statement. “Testing sites, additional medical staff, and continued shipments of therapeutics from the federal government will help us continue to save lives and mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”

It made me laugh and then made me furious and now I’d like to cry.
Gov Abbottoir: no masks, no vaccines! Individual liberty is more important than life! (Unless you are pregnant, then you’re fucked)
Paxton: indeed! I shall waste millions litigating an individual’s right to make every one around them sick and die choking on pieces of their own lungs!
. . .
Abbottoir: huh. The rich people can’t get hospital beds or the incredibly expensive treatment. Biden is murdering Texans! You’d better give us more medical professionals so they can burn out or die from COVID-19. We need more antibody treatments, you murderous feds! Give us everything we want while we claim the federal government shouldn’t be allowed to do anything at all

Everyone in my state is screwed. Every high level elected official is GOP. They all claim they are Christian. If hell exists, they are all headed there when they are done killing half the state.

Ontario :canada: Provincial Premier Doug Ford just said, in a press conference on COVID, and I quote, (hand over heart) “Now, we’re bracing for impact, we’re going to get hit like a tsunami.” :no_mouth: Cases are “growing expidentially” leading to “triple digit emissions” into hospital. :man_facepalming:t3: “Omicron … is too contagious to stop”

(Ms. Ardern, care to comment?)

Schools to re-open in two weeks, instead of overmorrow, which was the change from late last week. We’re moving the “Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopen” … back from Step 3.

All of the information necessary for these decisions was known a month ago.

Edit: Yup, checked my email, almost a month ago I wrote to the mascot for the Twitter account that is apparently my Member of Provincial Parliament.

one of the main tactics of the republicans over the years has been to bleed the government dry, push up debt, force budgets to starve public programs, and then claim government is ineffective

bailouts - even medical ones - help that along just fine

that one dr posted here and on the main page guessed 2025 i think before enough of the world is vaccinated ( or have died :confounded: ) for it to fully calm down and be more like how the flu affects us

for omicron i read early on guesses were end of january before the numbers start falling. it’d be longer but it spreads so horribly fast

im staying masked until 2030 at a minimum :mask:

(eta) oops sociologist. different kind of dr i guess. here’s the vid i meant…

As a follow-up…

This is being reported in Missouri, but I assure you the same is happening in Indiana:

A lot of the commenters are pointing out he’s standing behind a sign that says early treatment saves lives. How exactly do you get early treatment if the head medical guy is saying they don’t need no stinkin’ testing?

Enjoy the fact that many people have natural immunity.

What a jackass.

Indeed. The Excess Deaths number is the best way to measure it.

No real surprise about where they are. Since Feb 2020, Texas leads with 96,788; California is right behind at 96,655. Overall, it appears to follow population with some notable outliers. Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas all rank much higher than their relative population. New England and Maryland seem much lower than their population rank.
