Yeah, and you know what contributes to that?
I donāt know if itās brought up elsewhere in the briefings, but this exchange seemed like the perfect opportunity to mention the strain being put on our healthcare system by the unvaccinated.
At this point, thatās my biggest concern. I know I could still get it, despite all precautions, but I will not be one of those covidiots responsible for my friend not being able to get her returning āpre-cancerousā skin cancer cells removed because it was āelectiveā surgery. Fuck those assholes.
Hereās an interesting piece from The Daily Show about the impact on nurses, and what healthcare services arenāt obvious to the public:
But, but, they are essential!
In VA, as of Friday, we had 140 remaining ICU beds. This includes peds and surge beds. And the predicted peak is not for another 3 weeks or more. I suspect other states are worse off than we are. This may be where we finally break the system.
We still get a bit of disbelief chatting to friends and rellies about whatās happening in Ontario because it is all rushing on so quickly. We are at record COVID hospital cases, ICU is up 8% today to 477 with just over 500 remaining of the provinceās ~2400 ICU beds. That assumes full staffing, which we canāt.
We are, once again, having the āletās not go back to in-person schoolā chat with the sprogs and preparing a letter for the school with our reasoning (cc: politicians, of course) for next week. One of my kidsā friends describes COVID symptoms that are ālike my lungs have diedā. The friend in question is quite outgoing and well-liked and I suspect word will spreadā¦
No doubt to be followed shortly by a āPlease Do Not Travel Hereā by
No, really, please donātā¦ (see above)
Good info to be had here
Put simply, if you test positive on a rapid test, you almost certainly have Covid-19. If you test negative, in some cases, you might still test positive on a PCR test, which is much more sensitive because it tests for genetic evidence of the virus. Rapid tests may not pick up positive cases in people who have been vaccinated or who have recently recovered from Covid-19, since they may produce less virus, one expert told Recode.
From what Iāve been reading, there are staffing and resource problems in healthcare and education across the country. We need more teachers and training options for workers entering those fields, improved workplace safety, and more mental health care services for HCWs, educators, and students. Incentives to encourage those with experience to return, retain those already working, and attract new people to those fields will also be needed. If thereās no political will to push measures through at the federal level in a way that the funding/plans canāt be stolen or derailed by the GOP/GQP, weāre going to be in crisis even when we reach the post-pandemic stage.
Boosted!
Now Iāve had AZ, Pfizer, and now Moderna.
eta: Also upgraded mom to a KN95 mask. She preferred it over the surgical ones.
Dr. Fauci has had about enough of Rand Paul. Go to the 5:30 mark when Fauci finally gets a chance to answer him. You can watch the whole thing, itās only 9 minutes, but no one can watch Rand Paul for more than a few seconds without wanting to punch him.
Also the donation grift.
About right.
I would use that, but most who do this are too oblivious to get the sarcasm. āYeah, yeah, thatās a great idea!ā
So maybe hope? Not that the ones who need to will pay any attentionā¦
(And maybe if this comes through UVA will actually supply us with a real quantity for our use. Over the last 2 years, I have been issued 2 (two) and told to make them last.)
Canon had announced on Facebook in November that her employer granted her a religious exemption for the COVID-19 vaccine.
āNo jabby-jabby for me! Praise GOD!ā she wrote at the time.
Avoid at all costs.
Klopp has been a strong voice in favor of players getting vaccinated, but also an opponent of a fixture pause in the EPL for Covid control.
I think the level of full vaccination among EFL players is still under 75%. There seems to be some fear among them that myocardial side effects (small but not mythical for young men) might kill their careers.
