Seriously. If Dems used the same language that the GQP has been using, pearls would be clutched so hard they’d turn into diamonds.
I guess he didn’t get the booster shot of urine.
There would be endless rounds of condemnation… it would be so loud, you’d think the entire democratic party had put on a tan suit or used private email.
The result is an unprecedented, and preventable, economic catastrophe. This catastrophe was visited upon us by leaders – NSW Premier Dom Perrotet and Prime Minister Scott Morrison in particular – on the grounds they were protecting the economy. Like a Mafia kingpin extorting money, this is the kind of “protection” that can kill you.
It is only 2 in the afternoon, but Osaka Prefecture is already reporting a preliminary figure of 1,700 new cases of COVID-19, which is a sevenfold increase over one week ago. Osaka Prefecture is only about 50 kilometers away from my company’s head office here in Hyogo Prefecture (which is also up to over 500 cases after weeks in low double-digits), and so I have been telling my coworkers that they really need to be working from home to the fullest extent possible.
Meanwhile, Okinawa Prefecture (Population: 1.47M) is expecting 15,000 cases this week and is approaching collapse of the healthcare system.
I went into the office on January 5 for the first day of work of the new year, and I am now regretting this. I have a low-grade fever and am feeling quite sluggish.
Yes, but the immigration minister can still deport him as he doesn’t have the correct visa. The minister is weighing up a decision and this “oops, forgot to be honest! My bad!” behaviour is the sort of thing that would have most people on a return flight as the ink was drying. But we still await a decision.
In one sense it’s awesome - there is no winning move for the government; it’s a shit sandwich either way. And drawing attention to the real refugees locked in the same fucking hotel, some of them for more than ten fucking years, has been a real own-goal for them.
So we do owe Novax something - he’s shone a light on how brutally inhuman our refugee policy is. But other than that he can fuck right off.
ETA this because it’s more eloquent than I am.
eep! i hope you feel better quick. are you able to get tested to see if it’s covid? ( how is testing in general going in japan these days? )
Thanks for your concern. I suspect that it is probably just a throat infection (which I often get during this time of year), so I went to an ear, nose and throat doctor and received a prescription for strong antibiotics. The doctor said to take them and call first thing tomorrow morning and, if I am still feeling extreme lethargy then, he will arrange for me to be tested at a nearby hospital that does PCR testing. You can get tested without too much trouble, but you need to make arrangements because they do not want people who might have COVID-19 just doing walk-ins. (I called the doctor’s office first and they said that I could come as long as I masked up and didn’t mind waiting outside while waiting to be seen and waiting for my bill.)
Oh FFS, Guardian. Get your shit together.
Yesterday’s headline?
Covid loses 90% of ability to infect within five minutes in air – study
Today’s headline:
Covid loses 90% of ability to infect within minutes in air – study
And if you scroll down, at the very bottom:
This article was amended on 11 January 2022. In an earlier version, we said Covid loses 90% of ability to infect within five minutes. It is actually within the first 20 minutes – with most of the loss occurring within the first 5 minutes. This has been corrected for clarity.
Somewhere in the article:
The study, which has not yet been peer-reviewed

Here we go. Record numbers in Germany. I won’t even look for Switzerland.
Current RT in Germany is given with 1.10.
But figures may still be quite far from reality.
ETA: edit, and also leaving this here.

To be clear, I’m still mad as hell at The Guardian.
This opinion piece, however, is spot on.
The numbers are soaring worldwide. The major and some small cities in Brazil are enforcing hard sanitary rules again. Despite the rise in the number of infected people, fortunately the hospitals aren´t overcrowded like last year. Unfortunately, the first death caused by this variant was recorded.
Where we go one, we all drink one!
