Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

You know, it seems like I keep hearing about states running a surplus, and that’s in part due to covid funding

They’re up to 18 people with covid, a few are having a tough time, my mom is still covid free.

Good thing politicians have declared it over.

But even if COVID’s waves have become less imposing, the water level remains high.

On a personal note (intended as a little ray of hope for those who might need it): the house policy of masking up (except in personal rooms where windows are open), filters around the kids’ usual locations, “MacGyver’ed” as needed, and windows open a lot has worked so far. If the rest of us have caught it, we haven’t noticed and it hasn’t shown up on tests.

Aside from the fact in the headline, the rest of that piece says to me, “We pretty much don’t know shit anymore about the ongoing effects and damage of this virus.”

Today, April 18th, UVA Hospitals (under pressure from our idiot governor) declared an end to mandatory masking. I am surprised and pleased at how many of our staff have not changed their masking habits, and the ones that did are not a surprise. Very few families are masking now, which is a bit distressing, but I am counting on my N95 and elderberry syrup to ward off any evil beasties. With an end to reporting on incidence and morbidity/mortality in the press, the public really seems to think that this is all over. I will let my freak flag (mask) fly, though. So it goes. God help us. Because we absolutely will not help ourselves.

Considering the misguided rush to declare the pandemic over, I think I shall do my best to qualify as “some Americans.”

Just thought to go through my Covid bookmarks

  • The Johns Hopkins Global & US dashboards stopped reporting data on March 10.
  • The PASC (long covid) dashboard shut down with Johns Hopkins’ data collection on March 10.
  • IHME’s covid projections went on indefinite pause on December 16.
  • 1Point3Acres’ Global Covid-19 Tracker and Interactive Charts stopped updating on February 13.
  • Microsoft Bing’s covid live tracker map now redirects to a Bing search for “covid”.
  • Mackuba’s Covid Charts also stopped updating with JHU on March 10.

The few remaining sites still updating I have bookmarked:

Not a miracle cure by any means, but fewer and less severe viral schmutz? I’ll take that.
