Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

Listening to Howard this morning explain why he was missing for several days.

Yup, he finally got covid but he spent the better part of the show praising the vaccine.

It was funny listening to him and Beth argue about how sick he was, apparently it was pretty bad for him.

He’s getting roasted by the anti vaxxers and anti maskers. They’re all saying see, masks and vaccines don’t work. Huh?

The interesting thing was a woman called in who said she’s a nurse in Florida that cares for covid patients at a community clinic. She said the Florida health department recently sent out an email telling people not to get the latest booster because FDA CDC conspiracy blah blah blah.

Wtf?

They will probably keep pushing on this story forever.

Even when the studies say the opposite of their beliefs.

WAY more masks in the airport and on the plane today. Well over half of the passengers, and for the first time in a long time, one of the pilots and one of the flight attendants.

(Full disclosure: in :canada: I cannot call myself an “engineer”.)

My first concern would be with wiring up the fans; not everyone is going to be able to do that properly. You would need an approved power supply. Using larger fans will be quieter. I would be concerned that the fans were balanced, and you’d have to check they were able to pull enough air against the resistance of the filter. Most case fans are high volume, low pressure. If one fan fails, then that’s just a hole the case of this design, and the filter stops working.

I’d have to test this side by side with my DIY solution, which is still running. We have ambient conditions in this house that let us know when it’s time to change the filters, so I know we’re getting good filtration.

Like @Simon_Clift , I opt for a simpler method. My choice is the Corsi-Rosenthal Box. Just a box fan made into a cube with 4 HVAC filters and a piece of cardboard.
I’m not an engineer but I work in the building science field, including IAQ, and with a lot of engineers. This is the solution they’re all using.
And, anecdotally, more than a few of us have avoided household spread of COVID when one in the home caught it, and what we all have in common was masking in common areas as much as we could and having these CR boxes running constantly.

QAnon Anonymous Episode 263: Aaron Rodgers feat Arif Hasan

We have to cover the most publicly pilled star quarterback in the NFL. The only problem is… neither Jake, Julian, nor Travis knows a damn thing about the world of professional football. Fortunately for us, we’ve enlisted the talents of NFL writer Arif Hasan. Arif is the author for Wide Left Post Substack - a newsletter covering both football and politics - who has followed Rodgers’ radicalization from his glory days as a Greenbay Packer, to insinuating that Julian’s favorite late-night host, Jimmy Kimmel, is one of the names on the Epstein client list.

Oh brother, I’m working a huge job in a huge convention center and I just heard someone talking about the scamdemic.

It’s everywhere.

Some observations on day 5 of working with a variety of trades, businesses, and people of all ages.

People leave the stall, walk right past the sink and go back to work sharing tools and shaking hands.

Very few people cover thier coughs and sneezes, I’ve seen quite a few sneeze into their hand and then touch things and share tools.

And my personal favorite, using spit to clean stuff or lick their fingers to count things.

We’re going through a lot of hand sanitizer.

Oh yucky. Even ignoring germs that is just so gross
I hope you are able to stay healthy. Sounds like a prime local for norovirus and all the respiratory stuff

We’re able to steer clear of most people but it’s crazy how often we have to keep taking two steps back because people keep taking two steps forward. We’re not afraid too say too close though.

The plus side is the air quality has been real close to outside air so we’re pretty comfortable other than the icky hand washing garbage.

I love my Aranet 4, still the best investment to keep me less anxious.

Long COVID is associated with severe cognitive slowing: a multicentre cross-sectional study

The Lancet - eClinicalMedicine - Volume 68, 102434, February 2024

DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eclinm.2024.102434

We identified pronounced cognitive slowing in patients with PCC, which distinguished them from age-matched healthy individuals who previously had symptomatic COVID-19 but did not manifest PCC. Cognitive slowing was evident even on a 30-s task measuring simple reaction time (SRT), with patients with PCC responding to stimuli ∼3 standard deviations slower than healthy controls. 53.5% of patients with PCC’s response speed was slower than 2 standard deviations from the control mean, indicating a high prevalence of cognitive slowing in PCC. This finding was replicated across two clinic samples in Germany and the UK.

I heard some 20 somethings the other day talking about having covid 5 times in the last year, no big deal they said.

I won’t be around when they hit 50 but I wonder how getting old is going to look for those people especially since I’m sure they’re going to keep right on getting it for the foreseeable future.
