The BBC wants to hold a superspreader event
I have heard at least two medical professionals interviewed on the BBC about their choices not to accept vaccinations in the last week.
Anything to save the license fee?
Oh no, they’re turning on their “journalist objectivity”. This is going to be one of those programmes where they say “shape of the world- opinions differ.” Because they feel the need to stay neutral between truth and falsehood.
I truly hate what they’ve turned the BBC into.
like we need another one of those!
This is all about the upcoming vaccination mandate for NHS staff:
It seems they are now beginning to reconsider - either dropping it or pushing it back 6 months. The realisation is dawning that they can’t afford to lose that many more highly experienced staff. The story of an NHS critical care consultant challenging the health secretary made interesting reading:
But the fact check highlights the real problem with seasoned medical professionals making these points. While Dr James describes himself as “pro-choice and pro-vaccine”, “Dr James’s comments were eagerly seized on by those against vaccination, including some promoting false theories such as the virus is a hoax.”
Sorry for all the Beeb links but these seem well researched - my bullshit detector has become finely tuned where the BBC is concerned.
But some good may yet come of all this:

(Also, great job NYC, voting in an arch-neoliberal mayor.)
Saw this on the same theme last week. Unfortunately, the answer to the question raised here is no.
Are they TRYING to kill off the anti-vaxxers?
This is either craven, or stupid.
(Yeah, yeah: insert ‘why not both?’ here)

We may be omicron peaking.
“ Officials at the west suburban library said they stopped letting people come inside the newly renovated facility after an incident earlier this week.
The library’s director, Edith Craig, said police were called after a group of about 35 to 40 adults and children stormed inside the building and refused to wear masks.
After the incident is when the threats to library staff members over the library’s mask policy began.
“Unfortunately, the incident kind of escalated from that day, and that, as I said before, voicemails and emails started, and the library felt that at this time we’re going to take a pause,” Craig said.”
This site ist in German, but I still think it is worth that you guys notice:
The Paul-Ehrlich-Institut has a rolling list of certified lateral flow tests for home application with a lot of data on each. The list is… difficult to navigate for the average person.
The Zerforscht team thus made a website which uses this list and just gives the basic information if you enter the barcode: if a test has a sensitivity ≥ 75 %, you get a green checkmark, and it should be good enough to detect an infectious case of COVID-19.
Head over to https://schnelltesttest.de to have a go. I suggest you pass the link on. The team will be open for suggestions (and donations ).
If you want to know more about the list, head over to the PEI website (available in English).
I guess we’ll be back in lockdown again pretty soon? To be fair a lot of the closures we have had for two years have been pretty constant. There hasn’t been a gig for two years basically, most countries have had some amount of that.
i’m told it’s pretty quiet out there at night but I wouldn’t really know. I went to the theatre twice and the cinema once in September when they were open but with restricted numbers and masks but that’s it for the last two years.
The requirement to wear masks in non-hospitality settings remains for now, they are thinking of making it seasonal. I was at a shopping centre yesterday and I was worried that people would just decide not to wear masks but it seems that hasn’t taken hold yet. I worry about that…
As far as I know schools were the real engine of infection over the last few months. The .kids all make TikToks about the education minister
I’d take the NI figures (and ours were ridiculous around Christmas, completely unreliable) with a pinch of salt. They were a couple of days behind us in incidence with the omicron wave but they changed something about the test/reporting and their numbers fell off a cliff immediately. We ran out of testing capacity over Christmas so now half of our figures are self registered antigen tests.
But nothing’s changed other than the government has given up. Useless shits anyway. Desperately clinging on to power
Still haven’t been to see a movie or to see any shows myself.
