While Omicron is a beast, the secondary attack rate, to the best of my knowledge, isn’t near the figure for measles. Or varicella. And I sincerely hope that my informed impression that it is quite less dangerous for the immunonaïve than measles will not be corrected. (WDKS, after all.)

There is no control. And I mean that LITERALLY. The Gesundheitsämter long since have stopped contact tracing, we are legally obliged to do it ourselves if we get infected. The number of PCR tests per day in Germany is in the ballpark of Romania, or even lower. (Nothing against Romania, it is just that Germany is way more wealthy and, allegedly, as a better infrastructure?) Current regulation allows for ending quarantine with a PoC antigen test for asymptomatic people after five days (for kids in Kindergarten: the day after the last known contact to a positive case). Everywhere around me, parents are trying to act in the best interest of their kids, but are forced to send them to Kindergarten and school, and often staying quarantined admittedly seems not in the best interest of a kid, because it is a known known that it harms them, and while it is a known unknown what an infection will do to them in the long term, it is a known known that infections are statistically unlikely to cause severe cases in children!
If anyone would be interested why this is taking such a huge toll on my mental health, I would tell them: because I am sick to the bone of being lied to. Because since before the official declaration of a pandemic I was informed as good as I could about what was going on, and I knew I was being lied to.
This is only “under control” if control means we are accepting what the German language aptly calls Durchseuchung.
Reminder: kids under five are not officially eligible for vaccination, only off-label vaccination is possible. They do not count into the percentage of the population vaccinated.
