Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), the chair of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, on Wednesday urged Biden to commute Peltier’s sentenceand send him home, given his age, illness and time served.
“I commend your administration’s commitment to righting past wrongs in our criminal justice system,” Schatz wrote to Biden. “In continuing that work as you consider recommendations for individuals to receive clemency, I write to urge you to grant a commutation of Leonard Peltier’s sentence.”
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the former longtime chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the longest-serving member of the Senate, has also called on Biden to send Peltier home.
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons did not respond to a request for comment earlier Friday on why Peltier had not been transferred to in-home confinement given his age, declining health and time served.
Why? Well, speaking from personal experience, with no studies to back me up, men are stupid. We delay medical attention, reject sound medical advice and do our own thing. Partly due to stupidity, and partly because doctors scare us to death. Sometimes literally. So, there you go.
I am not a statistician, but I wonder this a statistically significant sample? Is the pattern similar to the US (probably the words largest sample of COVID deaths). I did try googling my local county results but they don’t break out by age.
The numbers are small enough where just a few spreader events could swing the distribution. I agree with @anon29537550 comment just above this though.
Close to 60,000 fans tried to get into the game at the Olembe, Kombi said, when the crowd was meant to be capped at a maximum of 48,000 people because of COVID-19 restrictions.
African Cup organizers have made it compulsory for fans to present negative virus tests and proof they are vaccinated against COVID-19 to attend games.
But many fans didn’t have tickets or meet the COVID-19 screening criteria and so forced their way in, Kombi said. Local TV stations have broadcast footage of fans climbing over security fences at the time of the crush.
Couldn’t find the post where we were talking about this but the wife went into Miejer today, she said there was a table at the entrance with unwrapped masks that people could take.
Also, she said more people, including kids, were wearing masks than 2 weeks ago.
Geez, we had to ask the greeter to pull out the box with the masks in it from under the table, but they were all individually wrapped so they were safe to take.
