Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

Threat? Threat???

Warning:

You might see news about a “new” coronavirus soon, based on a paper pre-print. I think we can safely assume some media outlets jump on that and make sensationalist headlines that deadly NeoCoV has been found and OMGlob, etc.

The important bit is: the researchers found this virus, they studied it, and if necessary, we can take steps to prepare humanity for the virus. Let science do its job, and let us support science doing its job.

IOW, the virologists are doing their jobs, like they are supposed to. But yes, the press loves scary headlines. That does not help.

Except when the headlines need to be scary. I could do with some more coverage of long COVID and how the US healthcare system is on its knees bc we, as a nation, aren’t supporting our HCW. Also some scary headlines about how much anti-vaxxers are clogging the hospital because they chose to be stupid and the consequences of having so few no ICU beds.

But that’s not New scary news

Amen. But yeah, boring, no eyeball draw. New Scary Virus Coming To Kill Us All is much more eyeball-drawing, if very wrong.

Dear Typhoid Covid Bobby,

Due to your dodging any sense of responsibility for what you did (passive voice is a big flag here) your non-apology is hereby rejected.

It looks like the omicron wave is starting to tail off here:
New cases, hospitalisations and deaths have all peaked and are on a decreasing trend (still too high, though)

And we’ve hit a set of vaccination milestones. Our 1st, 2nd and 3rd doses have now reached 80%, 75% and 60% of the population respectively.

No learning needed, he has a brain.
If you don’t have an immune system you can probably skip out on the vaccine, since there won’t be anything for it to train.

Be forewarned; it’s a tear-jerker.

Weird, he’s also wearing a watch instead of using his god-given sense of time. I’ll bet his house is heated, too even though humans are endothermic. SMH.
