Covid catches a case of James Corden
Desantis let a million COVID tests expire.
SeeâŚTeam COVID.
For a Spanish speaker, his name sounds like No-vac Yo-covid. What were we expecting?
Not enough, but at least for once, politics are faster than the current wave.
Our two local larger hospitals are buckling. Augusta Medical Center is on âfull divert,â effectively closed to new patients, and Rockingham Memorial as of this morning has 40+% of itâs total beds taken by covid patients, I expect the âfull divertâ announcement any time. UVA is not there yet, and has more flexibility in terms of opening more beds, but all face the staffing shortages that are far too well known. And still I hear âwe need to get over it, itâs just like a cold, we need to learn to live with it.â I do not know how to respond to these folks anymore. It is right here, beating you in the head. Currently RMH is reporting an average of 1 person per day dying in the ED waiting room while waiting for care. I have done this a long time, have been through some rough cold and flu years, but this is abso-fucking-lutely not that. But somehow, it just isnât sinking in.
I got pretty testy with a co-worker yesterday who was downplaying it. I may have said something like, âIf youâre going to leak shit, you should do it in the bathroom not the hallway.â
This is an otherwise intelligent person who somehow put together the sentence: âThe COVID vaccine is approved for SARS-COV-2, not the delta or omicron or whatever weâre on.â SMDH.
Yeah, I hear this from physicians! I am at a loss.
The ongoing tennis match in Missouri:
The short of this is, Kansas Cityâs mayor is defying the state attorney generalâs order forbidding mask mandates for public schools. (Good for Mayor Lucas!) The ball is now in the AGâs court. Heâs expected to sue to keep his death orders in place.
Lucas said Thursdayâs ordinance was tailored to comply with Missouri law.
It has an exemption for religious institutions. It was passed by the council rather than enacted under the mayorâs executive authority as with earlier mask mandates. And it runs only one month.
âHe [AG Schmitt] will sue anyway, so itâs not actually to avoid a lawsuit,â Lucas said of Schmitt. âItâs to make sure we will win such (a) lawsuit, which I think that if you look at this order, the way itâs drafted, we will.â
And in his latest pinned tweet, the organiser of this Fyre Fest of the Skies had this to say:

But in that thread we see this little gem⌠âalbumâ
My county in MIchigan is requiring all students K-12 to wear masks through the end of January.
Of course at the county commissioners meeting yesterday all the protestors showed up with their 3rd grade charts, diagrams, and catchy slogans. Theyâre still going on about masks that canât stop the particles that the virus rides on but it can kill the kids by keeping CO from escaping. Morons.
So they decided to appoint a 3 member panel to look into firing the health department head who made the mandate.
Hopefully they drag their feet and leave the mandate in place for a few weeks because apparently state law says only the health department head can make or rescind the mandate so if they fire her without a replacement the mandate stays in place until they do. There is a legal process that must be followed that takes time.
I donât think they ever give this stuff much thought.
