Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

Two women: Doc, I took this and I feel better.
Docs and nurses: we are noticing a trend

I have no idea what this might mean, but I’ll grasp at any bit of potentially good news.

What I cannot help but notice from the first article and CDC recommendation is the language, “especially for men” in a specific age range. That leads me to wonder if this condition never occurs in women, the risk was only to men, or if that difference just wasn’t studied.

Too often true…

FTFY

Let’s hope those “small studies” will get some funding and become large studies. There’s a terrible track record that needs to be addressed, especially if COVID (possibly long COVID) doesn’t affect men and women the same way:

There are a number of studies out there that show that the risk of myocarditis after vaccination with the Pfizer or Moderna shots is much higher in men than in women. Similar to how the risk for blood clots after the J&J vaccine was higher for women.

Edit: here’s part of a table from a CDC report, note the “myocarditis cases expected” numbers are about 7 or 8 times higher for men than women in some age groups.

You aren’t wrong, but in this case the women were listened to, and I found it funny that such a small sample would attract any attention at all. The follow-up study had a majority of women in the test and control groups.

I’ve read a few articles in the last month or so about the increasing rollout of the SMART Health Card, and it’s great that at least some red states are getting on board. What I haven’t seen yet is how those of us who live in states like mine (Alabama), where hell will freeze over before they allow that because they have passed legislation forbidding it, can verify our vaccination status some other way as this becomes mandatory in more and more places. An added wrinkle in my case is that I got my initial 2 doses across the border in Tennessee, another “hell no” red state, because they opened up eligibility for my age group a month before Alabama did and were happy to put shots in the arms of anyone who would show up.

I did the personally and publicly responsible thing by getting vaccinated (and boosted) as soon as possible without cutting the line, but because I live in the State of Stupid, I am potentially going to be treated like one of the (many) unvaccinated people because my only proof otherwise is a paper card that is no longer acceptable. Great…

Waving ‘hi’ from just-as-red Indiana.

When I went to my doctor for a check-up, I brought the card and gave it to the intake person to add into my medical record. This means it’s accessible from MyChart, a common hospital/medical app and website. They’ve got a special section for covid now, so if I open that app on my phone I can navigate to a QR code in the covid section, as well as a readable listing of the information. That plus a photo of my card on my phone has worked so far.

I’d suggest calling your doctor’s office and seeing if they use an app/website like that. You’d probably already know if they did, though!

TL;DR: COVID-19-caused myocarditis looks like other myocarditis in MRI.

Good God

Just an appetizer for what the Fascist Party of America wants to do to the rest of the country. Buck you, MoRon.

2022 projections

  • In 2022, the COVID-19 crisis is expected to remove close to 3.7 billion passengers during the year compared to the projected baseline, representing a 36.1% decline in global passenger traffic (see Table 1). Compared to 2019 levels, this would represent a 28.9% decrease.

In addition to creating a lot of stress for families this misguided separation policy is creating perverse incentives for parents to either intentionally catch covid in order to stay with their kids or just not have their sick kids get tested at all.

Great, nothing like jumping the gun.

And of course my last guy lovin’ county is still high risk because no one will wear a mask or get vaccinated.

The end result is predictable. Those who are vaccinated and live in areas that have done well with this, who theoretically don’t need to mask, will continue to mask. The unvaccinated living in high risk areas will not, and the self-immolition on the MAGATs will continue. Meanwhile, whatever the next variant will be called is rubbing it’s evil spike proteins together. And when it comes, the same covidiots will refuse to take any precautions. I suspect this will occur this fall, probably late in the season. Might as well plan on it.

Oh shit. 170,000 daily cases in a country of 50 million. Korea’s figures were so low until just recently.

@anon29537550 , seen this one already?

Good news!

Saw that. We have seen a surprising uptick in incidence of MIS-C in the last few weeks which is weird, given the overall decreasing case count, but WDKS still applies in spades. We are assuming this is related to the ending of mitigation efforts in schools here, but :man_shrugging: . I have heard antivaxxers moan about the vaccine being worse than the disease, and having actual data is nice. Thing is, the ones who will believe it don’t really need it, and the ones who need it, won’t believe it. Add in my increasing despair and stress over the whole world sucking, i can’t get very excited about this.

The wife went into Meijer today, first time inside for a couple weeks. She says about 50% are still wearing masks in a high risk county. She’s wearing an N95 with a surgical on top. She met our daughter there who is also still wearing a mask indoors.

She said the funny/sad thing was the mask wearing signs on the doors appeared to be gone but they had been replaced with much larger, get this…

No Guns Allowed.
