Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 4)

That is very much in line with what we’ve seen in Ontario :canada:, but we’re still getting a rapid increase in hospitalization rates, ICU rate lagging as usual, with death rates still flat.

/me searches again for Omicron "long COVID" in Google Scholar

Still no specific studies… I was hoping to see at least a “small N” study by this point, even just a “hey, did anyone else notice this” paper…

Yesterday Fauci made some news saying that “we’re out of the pandemic phase” but he just clarified slightly, now saying “we’re out of the full-blown explosive pandemic phase.”

This is the first report I’ve seen here, but the :canada: case count isn’t given.

I’d be interested to hear if contact tracing establishes a link. That would help rule in/out a COVID variant vs. co-infection or rare outcome, would it not?,

This is giving me flashbacks to the creation (and deliberate misinterpretation) of the term “global warming.” Saying that we’re “out of the pandemic phase,” intermittent vaccinations might be needed every year or longer when we’re at four months or less right now, and wrapping things up by saying, “this pandemic is still ongoing” leads me to do this:

Yep. I don’t see myself changing any behaviors, despite this announcement, at least until next year.

Your picture does not cover the magnitude, but the spirit.

And while we are still in the pandemic, let’s not forget the other stuff.

Your life is not going to get less interesting in the next couple of years.

Interesting as in “there is an old curse”.

Seriously, I am always deeply humbled after encountering committed members of the medical profession. Please tell your colleagues and yourselve that I, for one, an grateful. And even kind of reconciled with the human species, at times.

UPDATED with more details: A group of SAG-AFTRA members opposed to the film and TV industry’s vaccination mandate say they will stage a protest Thursday outside the union’s headquarters in Los Angeles. Oscar-nominated actress Sally Kirkland, a former Screen Actors Guild national board member, will be one of the speakers. As Covidrestrictions are being lifted nationwide, the protesters say it’s time for Hollywood to scrap the mandate.”

Out of work actors are desperate for even a little attention.

After two years of pandemic that killed more than 660,000 people, the Carnival came back to the streets of major cities in Brazil. The pandemic isn’t over yet, but the numbers of cases and deaths plundered.

I hope these numbers doesn’t spike afer the street parties.
