C’mon, folks (er…Volk), at least try not to live up to the “humorless German” stereotype. 57 in a 50 isn’t exactly Death Race 2000.

Are these guys in cahoots?

Edit:
Here’s the Boing Boing post from 16 years ago! It was an Audi then too. I guess that’s the preferred car for outlaw muppets.

But what is that in parsecs?

They’re a little grouchy, for sure.

3.65087e-13 parsecs an hour above the speed limit of 2.6078e-12 p/h. Unless that really is supposed to be 50 miles to the gallon in which case who knows. It probably involves corgis.

Yeah, sure. Put on a mask that significantly limits your field of vision and zoom along one of the busiest stretches of any Autobahn there is. What could possibly go wrong.

This was on the bit between the junctions Westhofener Kreuz1) and Dortmund Süd2). Lots of traffic all the time; both in and out the Ruhrgebiet and overregional/international transit.
It is one of the few parts of the Autobahn with a permanent speed limit of 80 km per hour and several fixed, not at all hidden speed cameras3), and for good reasons. Heavy traffic with lots of accidents already. Normal procedure is everyone driving at just over 80 - but basically bumper to bumper. Changing lanes can get interesting.
I can see why first responders would take objection to jackasses who add to the problem.

I can also see the appeal of pulling a stunt like this (who wouldn’t), but a prank putting others at risk stops being a prank and is just being a dick.
There are plenty of fixed speed cameras off the Autobahn where, with a bit of timing, you could do something like this without having anyone around for long enough to pull this off, safely.

1) Junction of the A45 and the A1.
2) Junction of the A45 and the B1 - the part where the A40 sort of peters out, turns into the B1 for a bit and then morphs into the A44. Or vice versa. The reasonable thing would be to acknowledge reality and build a tunnel, but, you know.
3) Yeah, this was deliberate. Fast enough to trip the camera, but not so fast it would result in a heavy fine and a suspended license.

As someone in the comment section of the original press release said (which you can find by wading through all the racist and sexist comments on people with niqabs driving and the loony ones about COVID masks), this doesn’t look like a mask, but rather like someone has duct taped a plushy to their steering wheel and the driver is looking past it. Their view is probably less obstructed than it looks.

Well, of course, that changes everything!
Oh wait, no it doesn’t.
Still a jackass pulling a stunt where they really, really shouldn’t.
