Cooking (not just dinner)

I remember when you were getting ready for her (early) birth!

Gold star decorations for a gold star babbie, right @XantheStone!

We were given a fancy pressure cooker for Christmas, so we’ve been trying out different recipes with it:

Yesterday was slow cooked lamb, which was really good.

I didn’t know anyone actually MADE spotted dick anymore!

I’ll have you know that my spotted dick was very popular, and everyone said they would like to see it more regularly!

(Actually, I could have made a few improvements – MIL wants to soak the raisins in rum next time)

Try adding paper thin slices of onion, does wonders, as does some fresh cilantro. What’s the deal with the pickle juice?

Add a tin of tuna, some hot sauce and a handful of frozen veggies and that’s one of my regular dinners!

Dat sodium content tho… :open_mouth:

I was just contemplating having another go tonight at tuna “white sauce” with pasta, like clam but with tuna. I’ve never gotten to “oh wow”, but I’m certain it’s possible.

Back to ramen, try and find MAMA brand Shrimp flavor Tom Yum, it’s mind blowing. Comes with powder, paste, and packet of red pepper. It has that sour taste of kaffir lime leaf that is possibly what Indubitably’s pickle juice brings.

IndoMie are my go-to as getting to the specialist grocers is awkward, but I’ll keep an eye out for them. Sorta limited by what I can order from the supermarkets.

And they come with little packs of tasty-powder*, delicious-oily-goop**, sweet soy, hot sauce and fried onion.

5 sachets!

Cheap, tasty and quick but really, really unhealthy.

*MSG, probably.
**More MSG in garlic oil.

Stars and Stripes?

Also I have to stop forgetting about this thread.

Pickle juice is cheap black vinegar essentially.

Also I tried kool-aid pickles for the first time. I hadn’t even heard of them before my wife made them. It was like having bread and butter pickles that tasted good rather than awful.

yes this is one of my favorites. soooo good right?

another favorite was an instant in a bowl style ramen they sold here that had a packet of bbq mini eels, a packet of chili oil, a packet of dehydrated veg, and a packet of a paste soup base, and a packet of dried herbs, and a plastic spoon fork. the noodles were high quality as was all the other ingredients, and it had some protein. the eels were whole but whatever, one gets used to eating that sort of thing rather quickly when they taste that delicious. that was one of the few instant ramens i’ve ever eaten that felt nourishing.

Nongshim Shin Black is also a good one.

Thank you. It might have taken a week to say thank you, but I get there in the end.

And thank you to you too.

I know, time has gone so fast.

It was her golden birthday, turned 2 on the 2nd.

That question was already guessed correctly. It was a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy party because he turned 42.

I was gonna say, that second one looks remarkably like my quiche

Plain cooked brown rice, plain cooked broccoli, a little butter and salt. Sometimes the simplest food is just incredibly satisfying. :yum:
