Thanks for posting this. Lowe delivers, as usual. Go him!

Just wanted to leave this here, for anyone who hasn’t heard the song before. Lowe wrote it in 1974 and it is as true now as it has ever been.

(What’s So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding

As I walk through this wicked world
Searchin’ for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself, "Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred and misery?"
And each time I feel like this inside
There’s one thing I wanna know
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
And as I walk on through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong and who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony, sweet harmony?
‘Cause each time I feel it slippin’ away
Just makes me wanna cry
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
So where are the strong and who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony, sweet harmony?
‘Cause each time I feel it slippin’ away
Just makes me wanna cry
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?
What’s so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding?

I shoved my digital pen through a makeup sponge and now it is comfortable to use again!

That’s a Professional Ergonomic Upgrade™ for about 50p.

Best version (much of it shot in my hometown as I’ve just noticed!):

I do like their version: more rousing than tender.

I have played this one at fundraisers and public events. Tends to go over a better than Billy Bragg’s stuff (also very apropos to those events but not so many Bragg fans out there… Elvis Costello is a bit more… popular…).

Ok, I’m definitely intrigued and simply must ask–where is this?

This song was covered on The Bodyguard soundtrack (Whitney Houston’s movie) which sold a gazillion copies.

Nick Lowe made much more money from those royalties than he had made selling his own records.

I read once that he was unaware of the soundtrack until he received a $$$ check in the mail, but I imagine that was writer’s embellishment.

Parts of it are in Vancouver, Canada: Stanley Park for sure, and what looks a lot like Spanish Banks Beach.

So, after three months here’s how I’m doing on my initial list:

  1. Learn to bake pretzels - didn’t happen, but I did learn to make a pretty good no-knead bread. So I’ll count that as a win

  2. Learn how to play “Settlers of Catan” with the kiddos - wow, the young’ns couldnt possibly have been less interested. That’s a loss

  3. Catch up on some “me” time - big win all round! My garden looks great, I’ve lost a bunch of weight, and I watched the entirety of Star Trek TNG on Netflix.

And in addition to my original list I’ve enjoyed all the useful links and suggestions that everyone has posted here!
