Crayfish amputates its own claw to avoid being boiled to death in restaurant hotpot

My daughter caught hers in the stream by the house. It lived a surprisingly long time in a smallish goldfish tank, and developed a fondness for one of our friends who liked to reach into the tank and pet it and give it little treats.

Maybe the claw was tied to a stone or something, in the bottom of the pot?

It looked to me like one of the other crayfish had hold of it, and being already at least partly cooked, wasn’t going to let go. #crabbucket
