Dead Celebrity (Part 1)

By necessity of their position, baseball catchers ideally have to be knowledgeable, crafty, and have a keen power of observation. McCarver was all that and displayed those same strengths in his later years as a sport broadcaster.

In addition to his long career he dealt with this.

Fried was a strong supporter of the fight against AIDS. His 5-year-old son Zack died of AIDS in 1987; born prematurely with severe medical issues, he was given 27 blood transfusions, one or more of which turned out to be tainted with HIV. The Fried family produced a line of T-shirts adorned with Zack’s drawings, proceeds of which were donated to AIDS fundraisers.

Yep. It wasn’t me, but it is off topic. No worries though, it’s not a flag for being ā€œbadā€, just not the right place. There are already posts about it in Fuck Today (which I found out after posting above)

Not a celebrity, but an activist in Oakland… She sounds like she was amazing. Very sad…

If we celebrate her, is she not a celebrity?

As you say, she sounds awesome

I think the only thing I’ve seen her in was The Poseiden Adventure. What I mostly recall was she was the only actor there who didn’t ham it up and chew up the scenery.

I too was a little disappointed it cut-off where it did… Here is what I found on that, but it was David Schultz, not Hogan?

I did not find a clip of the incident, tho.

Ha! Thanks to him and a Christmas shipment of Beanos from family in Scotland, I learned of the existence of the Daleks in the Sixties, over a decade before I watched Doctor Who on TV. (I’m sure The Doctor was in the panels somewhere, but he didn’t register like the toilet plunger robot things.)

Belzer, who died Sunday, was of particularly notable influence, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. His long-term role as a sex crime detective lent him particular credibility to his fans, while he espoused anti-government theories through his multiple books, including one titled ā€œUFOs, JFK, and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don’t Have to Be Crazy to Believe.ā€

ā€œHe’s got a megaphone, no question about that,ā€ Robert Thompson, the director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at the Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University told SPLC. ā€œAnd, as a mainstream actor, he enhances the credibility of someone like Alex Jones by appearing on his shows.ā€

The actor was a friend and fan of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, appearing on Jones’ show and selling his books through the podcast host’s website. Jones, who owes the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims $1.5 billion over defamatory conspiracy theories he spread through his show, also sells supplements on his website intended to ā€œcreate superior male vitality in men,ā€ a claim that has not been verified by the FDA.
