Oh no! I didn’t see this until now. He was such a good actor managing to play numerous “Evil Soviet Bureaucrats in Submarine Movies” through the years, and of course his role as Mr. “Diplomatic Immunity” in Lethal Weapon 2 is one for the ages.
My soft spot is for his role in It Couldn’t Happen Here. It’s already a deeply weird film, and Acklund makes it even weirder in his dual role as priest and hitchhiking serial killer. The latter is immortalized in the Pet Shop Boys’ Always on My Mind video:
