I’ve seen packaging like that before and the intent is probably not “make it look like more with mirrors” – the reflective surfaces are there to better show off all sides of the design.
I find it hard to believe that it stands up to scrutiny when you are holding it in your hand. Sure it looks like three pens in a picture, but once you move it around a bit the jig is up.
Brilliant advertising and completely ethical. Whoever came up with this is very good at their job.
I hear you man. I once rented an apartment because I thought it had a second bedroom but after moving in I realized it was just a full-length mirror.
For the money they spent on the packaging, they could have sold you three pens.

I’m not sure I’d call it “deceptive” given that you get, in the box, exactly what’s stated on the box to be in the box.

It is from a shop called Flying Tiger and they sell a lot of small useless things which make great presents. This is just one of them. Not intended to trick the buyer but rather the person who receives the gift. Highly recommend this Danish shop - https://flyingtiger.com/
Smoke and mirrors.

You think that’s bad? This pen was advertised as four, but there was only one in the box. Also the pen itself is reflective! So take that.
We once had a cat named Kugel. She was a bit, ah, difficult. She was very sweet, too, but I’m glad we didn’t get three of them.
I agree on point, although what one has seen before doesn’t necessarily point to the intent of those who designed the pen packaging in question.
Whatever the case, I think it’s unfortunate that the portion of the packaging that wraps around the pen near its top half is spread wide enough to appear as if it’s wrapped around three pens.
Something to reflect on.
This poor woman thought she was getting three wedding gowns:
The important point…did you pay an amount equaling three average pens, or only one?
https://www.reddit.com/r/assholedesign is full of these.
(ETA Oh, and that’s what Mark linked to to begin with…)
Is a kuglepen a single-purpose tool for writing on potatoes?
I agree completely; the only thing I dislike about their store—my most recent purchase from Flying
Tiger is a bright gold ceramic tooth that holds 4 toothbrushes—is that everything there is made in China. But these days, it’s hard to find things that aren’t.
