Deer jumps off of a 50-foot waterfall

If the tourists get bored with waiting for another deer to come by, they can visit Lopez Island, in Washington State’s beautiful San Juan Islands, where salmon-starved eagles have turned to preying upon the overpopulated bunnies that roam across the open areas of downtown Lopez.

It’s a great spot! The upper falls are spectacular and the lower falls are fun to play around in, as they are small terraces that are easy to get around in.

As an aside, it’s no surprise the deer popped up on the downstream side of the falls. Deer, elk, and similar animals float like corks because the amount of their body taken up by lungs is truly incredible. If they take a breath before they go in the water they might as well be made of foam.

Great visual and audio acuity, basic woods agility, and its brain tends towards insurance scams. That’s a little-known AI research result that I happen to know. You can also see the deer neglected to arrange its shot in landscape mode.

Drunk deer always seem to walk away unscathed from these things.

I do recall that making as much noise as possible is actually recommended in bear country. The idea, it seems, is to make sure wildlife maintains a healthy distance. Never go alone, always make noise so that the wildlife isn’t startled. Bears, deer, and coyotes will have plenty of time to mosey elsewhere before the noisy humans round the bend.
