Yeah, stories like this show too many cities are just putting more money into training before repeating the same old techniques:

in the positive development category there’s this:

Wow, that’s great! I wish more judges would follow that example. Unfortunately, we see too many cases where the local municipality backs up corrupt cops, so their victims have to sue in order to seek justice:
yeah. i’m super curious how she came to a place where she could stand separate from the da and the cops, and actually look at the situation as a neutral… well… judge
however that happened, it’d be like: let’s duplicate that process everywhere
The fact that 8 police officers including the chief have resigned or been forced out, and the lawsuits against the town for the treatment of people by the police probably make it a pretty easy call.
“There are at least 18 gangs within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department,” according to the investigation, and they are allegedly tied to the deaths of at least 19 people, all of whom were men of color.
More on oversight…positions will be filled any year now…
Plenty of funding for police, but somehow there’s no funding or support from the city for consent-decree mandated police oversight.

The headline needs an update, but actions of the police in this case sound terrible. Hope those lawsuits are successful!
Fair was arrested in 2010, and was housed in the King County jail for eight years, seven months, and 14 days without ever being convicted of a crime.
