You need to sell that with more question marks:
Kids can go to school, but we can’t vote???

that is the scariest thing I’ve ever read
How long before he floats the idea of just cancelling the election completely?
I think that Trump doesn’t want to be president. What he wants is to have dreary grievance rallies for the rest of his life where he can say that he won but was cheated. The dreary grievance rallies will be less effective if he can’t claim that he won.
because its easier to say delay, and then never have it
I guess that is what happened to releasing the tax returns.
Guillotines or an orderly transition? Why not both?
For me, guillotines have always been the iconic image of the opposite of an orderly transition of power. The French republic used it as an execution method for actual criminals up until 1977 in the context of liberal democracy, but in popular imagination the machine usually symbolises the unpleasant outcomes (for everyone) of violent revolutions.
On the one hand, THAT didn’t bar him to try in other cases.
On the other, that rethorical question has already served its purpose. Everyone talking about him, distracted from real politics, pandemics, and everything else.
I think Portland was a test run to see how local governments would deal with federal forces on our streets. I don’t think withdrawing those “officers” is a capitulation. It was to introduce the concept. If Trump wants to delay the election, these same thugs are going to be shutting down polling stations and suppressing demonstrations. I want to know from my local government what they will do if it happens in my city. As official and pre-considered policy, will our local police be joining, yielding their jurisdiction, or resisting the occupation?
I’m curious what would happen if red state governors agree, and about half the country just pretends it isn’t happening that day.
Well we know the one subject they DON’T talk about…
We seriously need a “” or “” rather than just . But yes, terrifying and way way too real. 3 months. That’s all we got, guys.
(Ok, not 22000, more like 90, but it’s an excuse to post a cool old tune. Don’t judge me.).
I agree. Revolutions don’t always end up the way people intended. Beyond the French revolution, see Irans.
I too prefer an orderly change of power, but there are some out there that do deserve the sharper treatment.
With all this talk of guillotines, I’ll post this discussion before the pearl-clutchers rush in to express their “concern” that we’re all advocating political violence.
As the guy who started that discussion, the tl;dr is that we tried a bunch, and nope, nothing beats a guillotine for getting the point across.
Oh, and if you’re an American living overseas like me?
Has he ever articulated what he believes the difference between the two is?
It’s the “Affordable Care Act = Good, Obamacare = Bad” nonsense all over again. Except this time the idiots are threatening to burn the whole country down over the misconception.
If he cancels the election then the only person left in the presidential succession is the President pro tempore of the senate. That would be the most senior member of the majority party, which on 20th January 2021 would be Patrick Leahy (D). Not electing senators this year will hit the Republicans hard.
Trump can and probably will ignore this, but it leaves the problem that the legitimate president is a senator from Vermont (not the one I would prefer, but I’ll take what I can get).
