Ignoring and pretending the breach never happened.

I would go with the former.

I seem to remember “protect customers from cyberattack” being a choice at one point and time.

A win for those hackers with the presence of mind to first alter the (password recovery) email address then.

Jolly good.

Of course the forced reset via email link is not working now.
