Mitch McTurtle has a quote in that regard: “You could literally take any name out of a phone book except Roy Moore’s and win by double digits. And we managed to get the only guy in Alabama that could lose to a Democrat.”
Seeing the headline on this morning’s paper was a glorious, fantastic way to start the day.
And now RoyMooresHorse tweets made me laugh out loud. Thanks!
That’s what I mean. They were willing to flush any remaining vestiges of their party’s reputation down the toilet just to win a single Senate seat and they lost anyway. Far better for them if they had taken the high road from the start, even if it assured their defeat.
Join the FUN Mitchy boy - now you know how we feel about Trump.
ummmmm 650,000 people still voted for Moore.
Honestly had he won they might have been even worse off. Aside from having a prominent pedo in their congressional caucus.
Frankly the reports about Moore make him seem fairly pathological. Those aren’t “different times” or youthful idiocy or even bat shit Christian needs a child wife behaviors. His pursuit of these girls was clearly grooming. Getting banned from a mall for cruising for teens. These are text book behaviors of sexual predators. Again pathological. And the behavior there is ridiculously rote. Dude is going down for child porn some time in the near future. I can almost guarantee it. It’s just how guys like that do.
That happening while he was in office? Bit of egg on their face to say the least. It’ll still be an embarrassment when it happens now. But it’ll carry less weight since he’s not in Congress.
I thought they were talking about some finer points of equestrianism that, being a mediocre rider myself, I’d never catch. Then I played the video. Wow.
I had to scroll up to see what y’all were talking about. But yeah, my 11 year old can’t do a full gallop but she can trot and canter. He looked like he was going to wobble out of the saddle. Just watching her and hear her instructors yell instructions on form, I know he is doing it wrong.
There are perfectly good reasons not to, and the usual platitudes shouldn’t persuade you.
However, I still think it’s good practice to play along with the voting game even if you are 100% cynical about it. The reality may be hopelessly far from what it should be, but it’s still good to be in touch with what the reality is. If you commit to voting in every election you can, you at least know precisely how hard it is to make things go your way, and where the difficulties lie. And sometimes it changes very slightly, which you don’t really experience if you don’t join in.
Yes. And I hope we can stop with the “leaders are appointed by the Powerful Shadow People”. They aren’t. Votes matter.
It might feel like a shot across the bow for Trump, but it’s really an admission that those people won. Losing that seat to Doug Jones isn’t their nightmare scenario, it’s what they were specifically trying to accomplish.
True, but the previous senate election in Alabama had about 0.3% votes that were neither D nor R, which means that only about 1.4% of those were “excess” votes for neither, which is just under the margin of victory. (This message just in case you were worried there wouldn’t be any hairs to split)
Hey, he harassed one woman over 20 too! He just did it in his 50s. Basically Roy Moore’s rule is half his age plus seven, he just regards it as a maximum.
“Is you is, or is you ain’t my constichensy?!”
Nah, Jones won’t face a re-election until 2020. His seat is Class 2, which means his term is 2014-2020, the same as Sessions would have served if not picked for Attorney General by Trump.
(The other Alabama senator, Richard Shelby, is in a Class 3 seat, so he was up for re-election in 2016, and will serve until 2022.)
I think what’s tripping people up is that originally, the idea was for Luther Strange to serve as the “placeholder” senator until the 2018 midterm elections. But the governor of Alabama moved the election up to December 2017, and well, here we are.
Oh boy that’s a Tsar Bomb level burn.
Shamelessly stolen from someone on Twitter: “Roy Moore might be upset now, but as soon as 2017 turns into 2018, he won’t pay any attention to it.”
I believe you are correct. I voted for Sanders in the Primary. I voted for HRC in the General. I live in Utah. There was a groundswell for Bernie. If he would have won the Primary, I truly think he may have challenged trump.
And still, millions of right wingers refused to even consider the possiblity of HRC being falsely slandered.
Well, but the KKK thinks everything that isn’t white, protestant, and Christian is a threat, though. Although they use violence and intimidation to enforce their world views on everyone else, they are also a group of people whose identities and sense of self are easily threatened. So yeah, a skinny, bland white dude who rejects their world view would seem threatening to them.
