A public with a reality-based education is the worst nightmare of American conservatism.
Wow! Any level of health authority could explain the actual risks - both short-term and long-term - of exposure to “very fine soot”, but I see there is no fair and balanced presentation there.
I have to hope the silliness of this rhetoric is undermining them. I know some very conservative people, and none of them would consider ignoring the air quality when the sky is orange and it smells terrible. I hope when those people watch Fox describe forest fire smoke as a liberal conspiracy that some doubt might creep into their minds.
That’s literally what Fox is doing, among other outlets. They are literally telling people to not wear masks in obviously unhealthy air.
Some may, but many will embrace that narrative, because it “sticks it to the libs”… Just look at how they reacted to the pandemic.
We should stop underestimating just how much tribalism means to some “conservatives” these days…
Yes I know. I’m saying I hope that this approaches the point where they start to lose some of their audience because none of the conservatives I know would accept that rhetoric.
They already did, by firing their most far right voice. People are just turning to more far right outlets.
