I am sure $20.8M is fantastic, but I think the lost value over 100 years of a beach resort in Southern California far exceeds this compensation.
Not to mention all the tangental opportunities for Black business owners who could have been attracted to this locale of the Bruces, and could have thrived alongside them.
Seems like nowhere near enough. I’m sure there are some astute actuaries who could tabulate the true loss of one hundred years of this theft.
And what’s up with the county getting an option to buy it back? Seems it’s the property owners’ prerogative to decide to sell or not.
