Director of Wonder Woman on why the word "cheesy" is banned from her world

Well…I am not Hollywood, nor do I speak for Hollywood. I only speak for myself.

If this isn’t a good flick, I will be hard pressed to walk back into a theater and pay the money to watch one of their movies again.

@knoxblox I not only gave them my money to see Ghostbusters reboot…I gave it to them 3 times. Loved that flick.

Vote with your money, its all we can do.
I’ll be seeing it again this weekend because its good and I want to send a message and that message is:

MORE WOMEN LED ACTIONS FILMS PLEASE!

My apologies to any fans of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace who I may have inadvertently offended with that blanket statement.

Well. I just want more GOOD films. When I look at the landscape of offerings over the last 10 or so years, I am very sick and tired of Hollywood execs ruining what might have been good flicks; and then shoving down our throats films that while excellent have zero re-watchability.

No one is saying “Hey, let’s pop 12 Years a Slave into the old blu-ray player tonight!”

I rather enjoyed Superman Returns to an extent and really liked Man of Steel.

Really? Cause maybe they should. It’s an excellent movie, by just about any standard. And important, too.

Well no, no one is saying that because who has Blu-rays anymore. ;p

Everyone wants good films, its just the definition of “good” varies greatly from person to person. Hence your Batman quip and upthreads desire to “just have fun”.

Can everyone just go see Wonder Woman please? Its really good. The fights are super fun. And for once the climactic fight scene in the third act didn’t annoy me. Is good, I give a 4.5/5 (.5 off for stupid Chris Pine being all Chris Pine and not right for the period!)

This is revisionist movie history if there ever was.

Last year when Ghostbusters came out, the MRAs were pissing their pants about how an all-woman Ghostbusters reboot ruined their childhood* or whatnot.

*if you’re a grown ass man and your childhood hasn’t already retroactively been smashed to cinders, you have led a very sheltered life.

interesting. My african-american spouse would agree that it is important, not so much on watching a second time.

Funny you should mention Joss Whedon… a man known to have shouted “Cheesier! I need it cheesier!” to his lead actor during one of his productions…

I can see that. It’s an intense film, so I can see not wanting to watch it more than once because of that (the scene where he’s hanging from the tree is especially hard to see. But as a film, I think it’s well done and worth diving into to get more nuance out of it.

Great films both. Not depressingly derivative or poorly written at all.

My experience in life has been that “If you need to escape, that’s because you are being oppressed!”

So when [Richard] Pryor got onstage and mused, ‘I just saw Logan’s run and ain’t no niggas in it! I said, well white folks ain’t planning for us to be here!’.

Maybe those domed and underground cities like in Logan’s Run, THX1138, etc were just zoos everybody else made for wypipo to safely live out their fantasies. “That’s right buddy. You guys control the world! The weather, the people, and everything. Just go back inside, there’s nothing for you to see out here!”

(200 years earlier) That’s right Mr Trump, a giant asteroid! Quick, you and your buddies hurry into this luxury escape shelter!

I started crying at one point watching Wonder Woman today, and it wasn’t because it was an emotional scene, although it was an emotional scene. My crying was massively out of proportion to the emotion of the scene. I was crying because it was the moment I realized this film made her a REAL superhero. Not a damsel in distress disguised as a superhero, not a superhero who is a small part of a larger super team, but an honest to goodness, badass, does the right thing because it’s the right thing, and saves the world, superhero. And the whole thing just overwhelmed me for a moment and it was all I could do to not ugly cry right in the middle of the theater.
