I wouldn’t have kept the same actor as the voice either. That would be like David Prowse doing Vader’s voice. I agree it was weird and unexpected, which usually I like. But as the movie played it “straight” for the most part, it didn’t really fit for me. BUT, this is a minor misstep in and over all good film, so it isn’t like it ruined it or anything.
Well, someone obviously failed the initial CIA field screening test. Can’t even keep emails a secret
Saw it, loved it.
At my screening, there were lots of moms, daughters, & families, but I was especially tickled to see lots of gay men of color, who screamed and cheered just as loudly as the women.
Also Gal Gardot’s fabulousness aside, can we talk about how utterly badass Robin Wright (aka the Princess freakin’ Bride) was as an older Themysciran warrior?
OH YEAH, I thought the name sounded familiar. One of my favorite films. Yes, she was good too. Knowing now that was her, would it have been too much to ask either “inconceivable” or “as you wish” to have been worked into the script in a natural sounding way?
That was my first R rated movie. I haven’t seen it since, but would like to.
will you all quit making me feel old.
Don’t feel bad. I was 20 and working at Regal when House II came out.
Wait, what? The one SF movie with the most social commentary in the last 25 years?
That was a documentary, wasn’t it?
Anyway, yes, but it was so over the top, in the delivery and the message, that it was nearly as effective as Starship troopers.
troopers gives the viewers enough to hang themselves. idiocracy uses so much rope that you see it and walk away from the noose.
The meme reply was pretty harsh, though. For me it looked as if you’d equal him with bizarro and yourself with kal-el.
I dunno about that; a lot of Idiocracy fans seem eager to uphold it as an example of how working-class people are stupid.
I agree. That theory is odd, because a working class guy is the hero in the movie while global corporate culture created a wasteland of idiots that he has to save them from.
They use this movie to claim that stupid people are breeding faster than smarter ones, while simultaneously saying that Joe Average is somehow one of the smart ones. It goes even further than that, because it claims the smart people aren’t having children because they’re too self-absorbed, so only average people can save the world
I was 13! Does that make me a young’un?
Ok, yeah, I’m old.
Re: Wonder Woman, for the sake of the topic: My dad recently found audiotapes of me at age 4, telling stories about my heroine. Somehow every story was about Wonder Woman making a fool out of herself.
Regarding the previews that were attached to the WW movie;
Does anyone have any thoughts on Atomic Blonde or the Mummy?
The Mummy looks more boring and silly with every trailer I see, honestly. I like mummy movies, but I can’t get into the sexy mummy.
I rewatched the 1999 version with my kid the other day; she enjoyed that one, so we’ll probably see the new one… but I doubt I’ll pay for it.
It looks to me like they’re trying to do the whole “Tom Cruise action movie” thing and… No.
I liked the Brendan Fraser version because they recognised that it was silly and embraced it. I am already not a TC fan… this ain’t gonna change that.
