Donald Trump Jr. texted Mark Meadows with scheme to overturn election: "We control them all"

It’s astonishing how early in the process Trump’s cohorts recognized that Trump himself couldn’t directly participate in of ANY of these conversations - if he were, he couldn’t be relied upon to keep it a secret, and if they got out, it would look VERY bad for all of them - all of which meant, that from the very first moments, Trump was already willing to sacrifice ANYONE in his circle - even his own children - to protect himself.[/quote]

Trump is not a clever man, but he does seem to be fairly savvy about keeping some kind of distance between himself and his most obviously criminal acts. There was the whole “meeting with the Russians at Trump Tower” thing, where the final story was that it was all cooked up by Junior and friends, and that Trump himself knew nothing and only swung by at the last minute, by which time it had all turned out to be a big disappointment. (Believe that or not as you choose, but what matters is that you can’t prove otherwise).

This seems to be of the same order: Trump let others do his talking for him.

My guess is that this isn’t a case of his cohorts realizing that they had to keep him out of it. It’s how he operates, and how he has always operated. When he’s doing something shady, he gives his instructions in person, and lets other people do the legwork and risk the prison time. I assume he learned the habit from his (alleged) Mafia buddies. Or Roy Cohn.

There are exceptions: his phone call with Georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger is one case where he is literally on record pressuring someone in a position of power to change the results of the election. I’d like to think that call alone would be enough to sink his political ambitions forever – but unfortunately that’s not the way things work around here.

I’ll vote blue and all that, but I’d feel a lot better about it if they would actually, you know, DO ANYTHING AT ALL when this sort of thing happens. This right here should be the end of the Republican party, and the Democrats should be howling for their blood (figuratively) right this second and doing everything they can to get this seditious fuck put in jail. At the absolute minimum they should leverage this transparently treasonous behavior in their election campaigns. But I guess naming names and pointing out that the other party are literally against the basic principles the country is supposed to stand for and are also literally criminals is not classy or something. No, better to stay quiet, I’m sure we can come to a civil, bipartisan compromise with the scorpions.

If this isn’t a criminal conspiracy, then nothing is; in the meantime, a Soft Coup is occurring across the country, where the FDC is frantically passing all manner of laws restricting voting & making it possible for them to overturn election results they don’t like.

There had better be some Major Fireworks from the DOJ in regards to these matters well before the fall elections. If the FDC regains control, nothing good will result from it.

Triangulation is a tactic of someone with NPD. They manipulate others to do their dirty work to always keep blame off themselves. This is why they are never held accountable and even allows them to play the victim later on.

Absolutely, and another reason why I stay involved. I mean, you can’t just give up.

It’s not quite as you describe it, though. Wisconsin is a very complicated state, politically, and always has been. There is zero question that districting shenanigans are really foiling democracy right now, but if (I so hope “when”) we fix that, and other onerous voter id and absentee ballot and polling place location/time and and and issues, it’s not a socialist/progressive slam dunk by any means. That’s fine, just give us a fair shot.

I highly recommend a read of this, if you are interested. Probably should be required reading if you live here.

and yet, if I were to start erecting a house in the middle of an intersection, a whole lot of things would happen very quickly to make me stop and to prevent me from doing it again

It’s as if my crime would be treated as a dangerous act of rebellion against the system

In the Universe Next Door, I would have said, “Surely THIS will be their undoing.”

But alas, we live in Stoopid World.
