Donald won in 2016 partly because he was still an unknown to a lot of people in the middle, some of them just voted for “the Washington outsider.” Four years later they’d had enough. It’s pointless to “energize the base” when you’re also scaring away all the moderates.

Donald Trump is not just going to go away. His ego won’t let him leave the stage as a loser. The next big show will be a fight to the death with Ron DeSantis over control of the party he thinks he owns. And he does still own a good portion of it (you can’t expect millions of people who think Trump is a magical hero anointed by god to just stop believing that myth.)
I’m getting ready for the intra-GOP civil war that I’ve been expecting since Trump won the nomination in 2016.
