Donald Trump pretty much just went Full Nazi

Brinkely is a pretty entertaining writer, actually. It’s not too academicy, as I think he wrote it for a broad audience.

… but did you notice how deftly the debate was diverted away from “Gun Control” to “Xenophobia”?

Let’s recap:

Facts

  • A man and wife;
  • who likely were muslim;
  • who likely wore jeans;
  • who likely drove a chevrolet;
  • went on a shooting rampage;
  • with legally purchased assault weapons;
  • and needlessly killed lots of people.

This allows the drooling simian Donald J. Trump to conclude:

“We must ban … duh … jeansgunsmuslims!”
##NO!

FFS.

Oh, good! My favorite is Barbara Tuchman - I think I’ve read nearly all her books. “The First Salute”…Trump ought to read that.

Maybe we - meaning humanity - should consider the fact that war is an inevitable fact of living with each other? It’s radical acceptance, certainly…but true.

I wish more people read good history for funsies! I gives you such a broader perspective on the world we live in, I think. But that’s just me talking from my history bunker here! :wink:

I was raised to read, LOL! I’m not kidding. I have my own bunker, so I can definitely relate. For me, it’s comforting to know that other humans have gone through things just as bad as or worse than what’s going on today - and survived.

I’m sure they’ll find a reason not to have this debate.

Nazi analogies have been overused. The best analogy was with the aptly-named Know-Nothing Party. Change a religious reference or two and its a near match.

Analogy?

Trump [the clown in the arena] proves the original expression… ‘If you can’t stand up, stand out!’~~~

Trump [the clown in the arena] proves the saying… ‘If you can’t stand up, stand out!’~~~

“To his credit”?

They say “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”, but in this case, I’m giving Trump credit for actual malice

does that count?

Sounds fair enough.
