In addition, his explanation of “No one knew health care could be so complicated” was just breathtakingly stupid. Over his decades of life, he saw his brother die of alcoholism, his mentor Roy Cohn died of AIDS, his nemesis Clinton made an early foray into health care when she was first lady, his other nemesis Obama struggled tremendously to make Obamacare into law. How do you live this long and still believe healthcare is uncomplicated?

That would require, you know, thinking about it. But yeah, just uttering that phrase alone, “No one knew health care could be so complicated” should have ended him, politically, because (leaving aside that everyone knew) he should have, if he was actually serious about the issue. Which he wasn’t - about that, or anything else.

Good point, at one point he was convinced that the US defaulting on its debt the most sensible way forward.
