And Pennsylvania voters be like:
Yeah, just makes me think they haven’t hired anyone named Ruth nor seem to ever intend to…
Oh, dear. Now I want a meme of the old Carter admonition to “put on a sweater” during the fuel crisis, but change sweater to “hoodie.”
Also, anyone who listens to Oz’s blatant projection that Fetterman is of the party who want to break this country apart and actually believes it is, to my mind, most likely already a lost cause.
(More) Dems need to respond to this and come out and say “They claim we are the party that wants to break this country apart. Look at our country. Republicans have broken us apart. We want to put the country back together again.”
Is “Ruth Less” supposed to be some comment about the recent and catastrophic changes to the makeup of the Supreme Court?
Agreed. Even the media. Every time I hear them say something about how the US is “so politically divided” I get so annoyed. I wish they would mention how the majority of USians agree on many major issues: abortion access, gun law reform, healthcare, etc., but we are being held captive by the right-wing minority.
I don’t think he ever said it. It was called ‘the sweater speech’ after the event but I cannot find any footage where he says it.
ETA we did have the whole “hug a hoodie” nonsense over here a long time ago in what seems like the good times, now. (That’s how bad things are here now!)
According to his presidential library/museum Twitter account he said it.
Switching out the cardigan for a hoodie would be sweet. And someone with more talent than I could add the Bernie inauguration shot.
Well, I watched the energy speech - the one in that picture, with the same setting and cardigan - in more than one version on YT, (it took two of them to virtually ‘stitch’ together that part of the speech - a 4min plus version and a 1.46 version that overlap a little) and while he talked about turning down the thermostat and being frugal there was no mention of sweaters. My search fu on YT may not be the best, but nothing actually showed up.
Maybe he said it some other time.
Huh. I believe you. I didn’t watch, just trusted what the organization said. Funny how that’s become such a cultural touchstone.
That speech is even referred to as “the sweater speech”. Maybe there’s a full transcript…
Maybe the cardigan was like his “tan suit” moment, and even wearing it was a statement in itself.
I found the clips you mentioned, and the transcript of the more official address to Congress, and the word sweater is nowhere to be found. Nothing is real. I’m going back to the matrix.
But I still want to see that Carter in a hoodie meme.
Newt seems determined to make himself look like as big an ass as possible over the silly NIN lyric tattoo issue. I’m almost tempted to think he’s doing it to make Dr. Oz look less ridiculous by comparison but really it’s just drawing more attention to how uncool and out-of-touch the Republicans are.
Newt… FFS…
Sadly in this case he did not, in fact, get better.
OMG - I missed the follow up.
Next he will accuse him of wearing blue to show his support for “the crips” gang.
Who need tabloids!?
It’s an odd reference coming from the Carter Library, but I’m pretty sure the sweater “quote” in the tweet is a Billy Idol joke
I question the “Normal 4%” tag at the top of that. If Newt is 4% normal, the other 96% must be a real winner.
