Dupes gather at sold-out Flat Earth International Conference

Its even worse because unlike old earth or evolution deniers, you can show real world, easy to see evidence of a globed earth. They don’t need to understand basic geology or genetics to get it. Just watch an ISS feed.

Has anyone made the “there are flat-earth theorists all around the globe” joke yet?

I didn’t see it in my initial scan of the comments, but I want to make sure it’s well repped here.

One of my oldest friends is a flat earther. If he’s being honest he doesn’t believe any of it. He simply believes in the fun he gets from arguing the position with people.

I saw this the other day and the guy explains why he thinks people believe in this.

I suppose you might be able to get some of the impossible anomalies to work is you assume that photons have negative mass and thus travel in a downwardly curved arc. That could explain why ships disappear below the horizon and that sun isn’t always above the horizon. Of course that doesn’t explain why Australia, Africa, and South America, the South Pacific etc. simply aren’t shaped that way. Or how you can circumnavigate Antarctica in a reasonable amount of time.

Can we just make great leaps in space tourism already so we can affordably rocket these folks up there and shove their face against the window, daring them to deny what’s right before their eyes?

Reality does seem to have a liberally spherical bent

Wow, I can’t believe I’m engaging this.

Think for a moment. The “Earth” is not simply the crust that we stand on and everything below. It is also all of the atmospheric gas and suspended particulate matter. In other words, going upward from where your feet are planted on “Earth” does not immediately become “Space”; it is still Earth, just a much lower density. An airplane that is held aloft by the lift generated by Earth matter has not left Earth.

Jesus, this is stupid. Never mind, I’m done.

Also “mainstream science”? The Scientific Method is absolute, there’s no other version. There’s either verifiable science or gibberish and opinions. Jesus Christ. Close the tab, cannibalpeas. Close the tab…

Ummm… I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen Klingons on TV and the Internet.

It makes you wonder who exactly they think they’re going to reach, when so many people have already been inducted, and every single inductee has readily agreed to keep up the charade. They think they have this earth shattering (heh) revelation that we need to hear, but also must believe that every airline pilot in the world was taken aside at some point in their early training and filled in on the whole deal, and presumably both took it in stride and agreed to lie to everybody they know. Otherwise, where are all the trainee pilots saying “you won’t believe what they taught us in flight school today!!!”

Although, they probably combine that part of the course with a satanic orgy, so maybe I’m being a little unfair.

It’s Nibiru. Shocker is that that one actually is round.

That is what they want you to believe, yes.

With the advantage that if they still don’t believe, there’s an airlock nearby.

(I kid. You wouldn’t want to pollute low-Earth orbits with frozen flat-earthers.)

The funniest thing about this is the “indoctrination” angle by the flatheads. Leave aside the fact that a large percentage of them are YEC’s, and they’re talking about indoctrination like they’re not victims of it. They brag about thinking for themselves instead of accepting what they’ve been told by the establishment. Thinking for yourself means evaluating the available evidence, and coming to an educated conclusion, not just coming up with whatever loony “theory” explains what your defective human senses tell your limited human brain they’re experiencing. It’s always funny to me when the people who think they know everything throw the word “arrogant”" at the people who recognize the limitations of their knowledge. Right, dude. Someone uses the word “sheeple”, and it’s the other guy who’s arrogant. Tell me another.

I Am Not A Physicist, but I think the relativistic stuff is just to keep the transmitter’s clock accurate due to the fact that its orbit causes it to move faster than objects on the ground do.

I don’t think you need to compensate for it on the receiving end.

pft, flat earth theory is just illuminati disinfo to hide the real truth…

Space tourism doesn’t actually reach orbit (yet)… Shoving someone out of an airlock at that altitude would be more like the Felix Baumgartner jump… Without the pressure suit, or O2, or parachute.
