Eating this 850-pound pot brownie would be like smoking 222 fat joints

Yes. Very very high. I can do 100mg before a long flight or if something aches really bad, but I’ll be impaired. 200mg is unreasonable even for me.

Indeed… mass consumption is the only way it’s even feasible.

Same reaction here, (although dabbing also isn’t an everyday thing for me.)

Everything in moderation, that’s the key.

I dislike smoking (anything), so I only injest edibles. I make my own, so I know all of the ingredients, and can find the right combination of THC/CBD/CBN that makes for an enjoyable experience without becoming couch-locked or buzzy. And because I make them for taste, I insist that the granola/oatmeal bars that I make also taste good.

What Maureen Dowd did was idiotic. She consumed a drug without knowing (or mentioning) the amount of drug she was consuming and without knowing how her mind/body would react. My guess is that she consumed 50 or 100 mg of THC when the usual dosage for an inexperienced consumer is 5-10 mg.

I’ve been making and consuming edibles (and topicals) for about 5 years now. It has helped my mood and significantly alleviated my joint pain that came from too much running over too many years. My dosage is about 25 mg THC per evening, and has been that for the past couple of years.

As far as offering my edibles to others, I’m very cautious, and insist on knowledge of the drug’s potentency before I give anything. I also tell everyone that every individual’s response to edibles is unique, and that consuming too much will result in an unpleasant experience.

The advice my dispensary gave me when I purchased my first edible was “start low, go slow”. 10 mg maximum, and wait 2-3 hours before evaluating the experience. If you felt nothing (or nearly nothing), then your “natural starting” dose is probably closer to 20 mg, If you felt overmedicated, then lower the dosage. Most dispensary chocolate bars break up into 5 mg pieces.

Most weed strains for sale at the shop across the street from me are in the 15-25% THC range, though I’ve seen some that clock in above 30%. A 20% THC, one gram joint, which is not at all uncommon, would contain 200mg. Here in Oregon, the single size serving for edibles is 5mg, so there’s as much THC in that one joint as 40 edible doses.

My math says that a 5mg THC serving from this giant brownie would be a 3.8oz piece, not 3.8 pounds. Did you drop a conversion somewhere?

A single serving that weighs in at 4oz would definitely not be among the most potent edibles by size, but not as schwaggy as one that you had to eat four pounds of to cop a buzz.

From what I can read in TFA, the big brownie had 20000 mg THC.

A “slice” (1/8 oz – which goes for about $50 in MA) at 20% THCA (more potent than average), will contain about 700 mg THCA. If you’re smoking, that’s all you need to know. If you’re making edibles, then after decarbing and infusing, you’ll end up with 500-600 mg THC, From an edible perpsective, an 8th will result in about 40 brownies of 15 mg THC each.

I would expect that for consumption purposes, the 850 pound brownie they made would be cut into about 3000 pieces. Each brownie will be about 5 oz and contain 15 mg THC. A very reasonable dose in a reasonable serving.

Can’t believe they missed the open goal of making a 420lb brownie.

Nope, my math was fine. You apparently misread my post

which is 5 mg THC per 100 g (3.52 oz) brownie or:

Agreed. I’ve done a fair amount of acid in my day, and edibles are on the same league to me.

Interesting that you mentioned therapeutic uses. The main reason that I used to basically microdose edibles was for joint pain. I’ve had pretty severe joint pain for years. I’m an avid yogi. I’ve tried a variety of pain reduction techniques and edibles is the only thing that really helps. Hopefully they’ll be legal everywhere soon.

My bad. I conflated your comment and @Otherbrother s
