It started a while back, I think. And it will go on for a long time because it is a civil cultural war, fought with politics, law and religion and with largely guerrilla civil actions involving far less direct violence than a proper war. A proper war would be over sooner and would probably result in the US splitting in two (or more).

I was wondering about that earlier. MSNBC had a WI election official on to talk about things this morning and she had to slightly amend her Twitter post saying that everything was counted because there were still a few incomplete records including that one, and I was like “wait, how does it take this long to count 300 ballots?”

I work in a large-ish facility. See a lot of people here everyday, but it’s always small talk, you know? Talking politics just isn’t polite, along with religion and sexuality. So yeah, they walk among me, here in the city where I live. That’s what really gets my goat: every morning the cars line up from out of RedHat country to get into my Blue city to earn their paychecks.

I expected it, but I hoped for something different. 25 to 33 percent of any given population are authoritarians, and I did not expect them to vote anything else. Those are the guys with the pick up trucks and the open carry enthusiasts, the proud boys and the KKK. But I expected it, because the inevitable backlash to a starting oppressive system like that calls for riots, and riots did occur. And so did the also inevitable blaming that catches the rest of the necessary populous for a potential win. Because the so called centrist just want order, and the fascists promise to deliver.
I did hope that I’m wrong, because the gop and Trump were so blatantly corrupt and shamelessly talking about it. I could not imagine people still not seeing that they are robbed blind, lied to and disregarded in every way possible.
My hope was misguided and my last bits of faith in humanity lost. I was so pessimistic that I actually already thought, please vote blue so that you good people can at least have a clear conscience in the days to come.
But I was also more pessimistic. So far there are no signs of a Kristallnacht. Yet with last nights announcement it at least became clear why the Republicans were so quick about installing their judge.
Oh boy. Is “The ‘best’ yet to come?”

That’s often the shitty take right here in the US.
But you look at the demographics GOP and conservative voters in general are twice as wealthy on average as DNC/left wing voters. And they’re older. White college educated people, particularly men have been a core block for the GOP for decades.
The whole dumb people in fly over country voting against their interest story is a myth.
They’re hateful people who know exactly what they’re supporting.

It’s a tenuous link i suppose but for all the differences this did give me flashbacks to the 2019 UK general election in the sense that so many working class areas in traditional industrial towns and villages put their support behind the Tories, a party whose top echelons are made up of Bullingdon Barons that has never and will never represent their interests but promised… ‘a diesel soaked Valhalla’? They’ve spent 10 years rolling out their devastating austerity that has inflicted “great misery” on the poorest so you wouldn’t be blamed in thinking that sure to fucking god people would vote for something else? And yet the turkeys voted for christmas and gave them a stonking majority. I’m just glad that, for now, it’s going in the Dem’s favour and desperately hope you don’t get 4 more years of this crap.

For some of them, the racism and bullying is the only reason they support him. (they like seeing other people suffer and get hurt).
For others, they don’t see the racism and bullying directed at them, so they overlook it (“not my problem”), and concentrate on the things they do care about (the mistaken belief that trump will cut their taxes and bring jobs, while the dems want to raise taxes on them and kill business), [none of that is true… trump only cut taxes for the extreemly super wealthy, and has been horrible for any businesses that don’t make their money only from questionable financial instruments).
And then there’s the Fox News cohort, who believe everything fox news tells them (and only what fox news tells them), and think CNN, NBC, CBS, and ABC are Chinese/Soros socoialist propeganda, because that’s what fox news told them, and just about everyone around them (family, coworkers) all tell them the same (the bubble). They find their expenses going up, and their pay getting cut, or lose their jobs, and are told it’s all the democrats fault, and never question it. They hear that the democrats want to force them to get abortions so that they can bring in south-american immigrants to replace them, and they believe it. They hear that democrats are going to make it illegal for white people to go to college (only allowing minorities to go) and they believe it. They hear democrats are going to kick them out of their homes so that minorities can live there for free, and they believe it. All that sounds totally crazy to us, but it’s what they hear day in and day out from their news, and all their friends and family and churches. Rush Limgurger got the Metal of Freedom after all, so everything he said must be true?
