Elk is in no mood for a crowd of Colorado tourists — so she bites off the tip of young boy's finger

Shame it wasn’t one of the dumb adults that got bit. It’s not the kid’s fault

I suspect Trump’s library will be a cart full of books that a trustee in an orange jumpsuit pushes from room to room around Mar-a-Lago.

I had a bull elk decide to traipse through my campsite at Waskesiu National Park in Canada one night. Walked between me at the fire pit and my tent, I was probably 15 ft away. That was utterly terrifying (if magical), I just froze and waited for it to pass by. I can’t imagine deliberately walking up to one, let alone trying to feed it. People are so dumb sometimes.

I’m a fan myself! (Not so sure about the “blood” part, but the food is great!)

That is a pretty cool story! May I point out that was probably the only one you saw.

That was Saskatchewan. Banff AB has regular town-elk. When walking at night from restaurants to the pedestrian bridge over the Bow River, the area is dark dark dark. Some elk-shaped areas are even darker and you find yourself in the midst of many of those shapes once you pause to look.

…in Alberta from 2011 to 2021, based on Parks Canada data… Elk made up the bulk of the attacks in Alberta at 2,299; there were also 431 grizzly bear attacks and 243 black bear attacks.

The frequency of contact does not diminish my wariness around large animals. And no, it was not the only one I saw, it was just the one I got uncomfortably close to.
