Elon Musk says Twitter will soon be renamed "X", an idea so bad even now few think he's serious

It’s a thing with right-wing tech overlords. See also the Tolkien-inspired names of Peter Thiel’s companies.

It’s spelled “X” but it’s pronounced “ECCH!”

Yeah, I don’t give a flying f^#%, either.

It’s OK, Elno will very shortly run the company formerly known as Twitter into bankruptcy. Whatever he calls it will be irrelevant then.

So I was pretty sure that someone would have already posted a variation of this new “X” logo somewhere on this thread. Did I miss it somehow?

It’s not a huge surprise, given the general tenor of tech journalism; but it’s a bit disappointing how coverage of the-quest-for-the-western-everything-app often seems more interested in horse race speculation about who will win and analysts describing them as a multibillion dollar ‘strategic imperatives’ than mentioning that they are attractive largely because anyone who successfully builds one will get to be a rentier and surveillance hegemon on a broad swath of what used to be an at least somewhat competitive set of internet-delivered goods and services.

Especially irksome when the observation that an ‘everything app’ is basically just a browser where one entity controls the company store, the identity system, and dictates terms for 3rd party presence is trivially obvious; not some sort of esoteric realization that requires the most incisive analysis.

Maybe it’s less of a rebranding and more of a prediction.

“Chapter 10, originally known as “Chapter X,” listed the processes and procedures for bankruptcies involving corporations.”

… as in “telling us a story of fictional events”

yeah, but skunk gets to maneuver around the stigma of filing chapter 10 bankruptcy for the property formerly known as Twitter and say to his adoring fanbois that he actually went chapter X on his own terms.

I guess it’s not much worse than calling it Meta? Except it’s less trademarkable, and has a porn connotation. Maybe he’s looking ahead to the entrance of X-Men into the MCU, and thinks it’ll be cool?

I hope the echo chamber he’s in convinced him to go all in on this. I mean, usually billionaire bubbles are a bad thing, but just this once…
