European Human Rights court: Websites liable for users' comments

Wow, this is potentially really chilling. Reminds me of the situation in Thailand, where bloggers have to moderate all their comments just in case a commenter insults their king.

It’s what you get for running a collection of governments who literally outlaw free speech, e.g. Germany, where you can be fined and/or imprisoned for stating you’re a Nazi sympathizer.

I’m by no means a Nazi sympathizer. But sorta the whole fucking point of free speech is to protect the people with unpopular and disgusting opinions. If they’re not protected, then really free speech laws aren’t necessary.

France as well, if memory serves. Actually, to think about it, some French ISPs actually shifted their operations because the French equivalent of the Patriot Act is way worse than the US version.
