(this article is from 2012, but the popularization of the practice in late stage capitalism U.S. has DJT as its unmistakable, hollow, false, singularly reprehensible figurehead hyperglorified looter)
I don’t like the New Yorker printing those. They are never funny enough to justify diminishing the news standards. NY used to be known worldwide for its fact checkers, now it’s known for printing “satirical” news stories for clicks.
Leave that to the Onion or Waterford Whispers, or your local satire site.
It also appears that the First Daughter has never had any affection for those struggling because they weren’t born into rich families
That definitely fits with what we know of Ivanka. A few years back Ivanka tried to humanize her father by sharing an anecdote about a time when Trump, still living in opulence but buried in debt due to financial debacles of his own making, pointed out a homeless man on the street and bitterly remarked “that guy has $8 Billion more than me.”
Imagine living in the penthouse of a Manhattan skyscraper emblazoned with your own name and complaining that you’ve got it worse than someone who has literally nothing.
Yeesh. Even if Trump’s “empire” is hacked to pieces and sold off by creditors at pennies on the dollar, none of them are ever going to miss a meal or worry about where they’ll sleep tonight.
And she publicly shared that same anecdote on multiple occasions over a period of years, so presumably she still doesn’t get how oblivious it makes her and her dad sound.
I’ve been skimming play-by-play updates of the arguments in that case. It sounds like the courtroom equivalent of Hulk vs. Loki. (Giuliani is not the Hulk in this metaphor.)
I just learned that Giuliani hasn’t argued a case in court since the Bush administration.
The FIRST Bush administration.
So that’s kind of like paying a record sum to bring Larry Bird out of retirement in the hopes that he can lead the worst team in the league to win the 2020 NBA finals. Except if Larry Bird had been a middling basketball player at best even before he retired. And also it was the Stanley Cup instead of the NBA finals.
